Hi all. I'm new to electric scooters. I admittedly found myself here because I bought one out of necessity. I live 3 miles from my auto shop, in a very cold climate (Alaska), and have a back injury. I generally have walked to/from the shop or the nearby downtown area but don't have the mobility anymore as a result of the injury. I move slower and suffer for a long time after walking such distances anymore. All that being said, I picked up a GoTrax XR Advance as a mobility solution. It gets the job done, but I'll admit I'm already looking for something faster and more comfortable. I'm doing research for something under $500. There is no Uber or Lyft or taxi service in my town so I think it's a worthwhile purchase. I was looking at the Freeboy J11MAX but can't find anyone to ship to my area. Suspension and tire tread are important here haha. Because I'm not disappointed in my GoTrax, and because hours of darkness tend to be longer in my area, I decided to go ahead and buy a set of signal lights. If I do end up finding an affordable upgrade that can shop to Alaska, I can reuse them. They're actually pretty great. USB rechargeable, wireless, and come with several mounting solutions to make them relatively universal. Will definitely use them on our tandem bike in the future. I'll attach some pics of the lights, as well as a link here: https://a.co/d/j8yyorc If the link is a rule violation please let me know and I'll edit just to share the name brand. Otherwise, if any of you know if a scooter company/seller that will ship to Alaska, please let me know.
Actually I have made two trips on snow/ice so far. It gets a bit sketchy but I try to just pick the best path. The Gotrax being front wheel drive seems to really help with keeping it under control. So I found a couple of positive reviews for the J11 and decided to go ahead and give it a shot. Hopefully I will not regret it. My plan will be to keep both and maybe enjoy riding together with my wife at some point.
I've owned a good number of scooters: Segway GT2 (nothing in 2 years) Gotrax XR Ultra (nothing in 5 years!) Razer e90 (nothing for 4 years, barely used though and battery life is shorter) Dualtron Victor (brakes issue, barely used) Emove Cruiser (brakes issues, throttle issue, several tire issues, fender issues, motor down on power, 6 years owned)
Thanks, I'll look those up. In my case, I'm okay with those sacrifices for now since I don't need to go more than a few miles and have no desire to go over, like, 10mph at the most. I ride on the sidewalk, also, and just want a leisurely cruise around for errands. I bought a gotrax x advance for my entry into scooters because it was the lightest thing I could find and I have to carry it up stairs. So far it's fine for me, but I do wish I could modify a wider deck. Just an inch on each side would be nice. I did make a sleeve for the handle so it works like a half twist throttle which I was pretty pleased with.
I used to ride a GOTRAX commuter scooter every day, and the biggest problem was how fast everything started rattling and getting loose. The folding mechanism got wobbly pretty quick, and the ride just got rougher and rougher the more I used it. For like casual weekend rides it's totally fine, but for actually commuting on it daily? It didn't hold up nearly as well as I was hoping. The cheap price is why people go for them, but the tradeoff is you end up spending way more time fixing stuff than you really want to !!!
