Unfortunately I didn’t get the leopard. I ended up with a used HiBoyS2 Pro lol. I’m in Chicago downtown and commute to office. I’d rather wait for 2025 to get a much better electric scooter. Checkout the new Segway GT3 Pro. Or Inmotion climber. Both have similar price and spec range. Both have some real good reliability and pretty decent daily required performance. All the best man.

Left: HiBoy S2 Pro - February 2024 - ~3000 miles Middle: iSinWheel S10 Max - September 2024 - ~1500 miles Right: KuKirin G2 Master - January 2025 - ~300 miles The HiBoy is the new revision one that apparently fixed the stem snapping issue and has been very reliable to me with no maintenance needed throughout its life (The front tire needs replacing soon though). It took around 25 minutes to get to work on this scooter. I lent it to my cousin at around 1400 miles and got it back recently. The iSinWheel was pretty good until it wasn’t, with issues such as a suspension bolt coming off (should’ve tightened them all first), and the motor overheating unknowingly at around 600 miles in after going uphill in the heat, which lead to the top speed permanently reducing from 28 to 24mph on GPS (It still shows 28mph on the speedometer since it’s off by around 4mph). It took around 20 minutes to get to work on this scooter. My cousin bought it from me for $200 at around 1200 miles. The KuKirin is just incredible, rated at 37mph, yet it can reach up to 41mph with my weight on flat ground. The cable brakes aren’t amazing, but after enabling regenerative braking in the P settings, it has helped me stop faster and significantly reduce break pad wear. It’s also one of the newer revisions with little to no wobble at top speed. It takes around 15 minutes to get to work on this scooter. I could’ve gone for an Ausom Gallop, but I needed something I could actually lift into the trunk of a car. Overall, I’m enjoying this scooter a lot, and it has been replacing my car for me a lot more often compared to my other scooters I had.

The first scooter was a 19mph one, and I bought it to test the waters and ended up using it a lot more often than I thought I would. I later lent it to my cousin after upgrading. The second scooter went 28mph and I thought that would be the all I needed until the motor overheated silently and reduced the top speed to 24mph. I upgraded again after letting my cousin buy it off of me. I was already aware of regen braking causing controllers to burn out, so I set it to the lowest setting and monitored the voltage while doing so, and it seems to be a much smaller difference compared to the voltage sag, so I’m hoping it’ll be fine. The regen only starts working when you lightly press the brakes, otherwise it coasts. I’m mostly using it to compensate for the cable brakes to allow me to brake faster and save my brake pads since they wear quick on this scooter at high speeds.

Recently got started doing food deliveries to make some extra cash on the side and I want to share my electric scooter experience for anyone else who might need it. As a student working only part time in the city, it was hard making ends meet with just one (read: half) source of income. Someone mentioned food delivery as a great way to save up on the DL but I didn't even own a car. Thought about biking for it, but then i came across the world of electric scooters and my life was changed. Since I was just looking for a money-making means, all i needed was a reliable scooter within a restricted budget (around $400). After a few yt videos and some reviews, I placed the order for hiboy s2 pro. Here's how it has been going: I still remember my first delivery. The restaurant was in the Loop, and the order was headed to a high-rise in River North. Navigating through traffic during rush hour was surprisingly smooth on the scooter. The acceleration allowed me to keep pace with city traffic, and the tires handled the occasional pothole without issue surprisingly. On average, I cover about 20 miles during a shift. The s2 pro's battery holds up well and I can take about 4-5 deliveries before needing a recharge. The dual braking system is something i didn't know i needed but have since come to love due to random pedestrians who do not love their lives. However, I think the scooter does not take sharp turns very well, so that has been a learning curve for me. Early on, I faced another minor issue with the folding mechanism. I reached out to Hiboy's customer support and they were quick to follow back and respond. All was well after a few troubleshooting steps and the folding continued. I will say, however, that the scooter is fairly heavy and lugging it around isn't a piece of cake. So while Im a fan of the folding, I really do wish they made it lighter. In my 3 month of experience I also found that rainy days are maybe not a scooters' best friend. Aside from the obvious inconvenience of getting wet, the brake power reduces and I find the scooter doesn't perform as well either. But that's alright, I dont want to be out in the rain anyway. Final thoughts: All in all, the s2 pro has been my trusty companion and I'm making enough money without having to spend on parking, fuel or even car upkeep. If you're looking for budget friendly scooter that gets the job done without being too finnicky, s2 pro is a great place to start.

**Observational point:** lots here on Reddit that, 'Segway is the best, the very best, the mother-fucking best' talking points.' As others have pointed out, Segway 'influencers' and other narcs are here posting about Segway. Just an FYI. In advance, I like Segway, but its your Mom's scooter. Practical. Safe. Maintenance. Regulation. Dad doing all the work to keep this 1978 Chevy Monte Carlo on the road. **Segway Ninebot G30** **Summary:** More family friendly. Better for big and heavy riders (250 - 260 pounds). Like a minivan with decent offroad capability (the air tires are the key here). Bigger (deck is longer and wider than most competitive scooters). **Manufacturer software mandates:** can be / are a hassle -- regulation by the manufacturer. Air tires, but no shock absorbers and/or deck springs. **BUT!** be prepared for daily and monthly maintenance. Motor is in the back tire. Notable: **0. Durable (9/10**): good for hard, bump roads. Cinder paths (eg jogging paths); fresh cut grass (eg golf course fairways; some dirt roads that are packed. Cobble stones are A-OK (if bumpy; very doable). Also, easily to ride 2 people: 1 man; 1 woman work okay, provided you aren't overweight (eg not a chubby Georgia couple). an adult and a pre-puberty child works very well. **1. air tires:** checking these constantly. If you live an urban environment with rough roads (eg Boston; NYC) you may want air tires (softer ride), but you trade off with maintenance. Check daily. Buy a portable electric air pump (looks like a walkie talkie and costs \~$50 USD) **2. slow quickness:** Segways are not quick off the line. They are more like a big labrador retriever, and take some time to hit max speed. In city environments, it is in your best interest to plan well ahead. Maybe stick to the bike lane, if you're an anxious type. **3. braking:** the regenerative braking is ALWAYS coupled to analog braking (which is poor unless one keeps on top of maintenance; if you ride your brake, with regular commuting (5x a week), you will go through brakes every 3 months. Braking requires >30% more distance than Hiboy **4. controllers:** the electronic speed controller (ESC). Segway ESCs are famous for melting down and/or short-circuiting. Older Segways (pre 2019) were able to be hacked (ScooterHack app) and flash any new controller. New Segways require purchasing from Segway - China or a Segway approved repair shop (NYC has 2). Just a way of introducing that Segway - China has your Segway scooter in a big ol' database and you gotta deal with them if the ESC shits the bed. They track both the serial number (SN) on your scooter and ***match it*** to the ESC's SN. Its part of an anti-theft system that is ***regulated from China***. Ahem. The customer service is okay, but not fast. Be sure you have some tech game, and be patient. **5. tl; dr:** Segways -- and particularly Ninebots -- are reliable, if not quick (top speed is reached, but will take a bit), high maintenance scooters (to maintain daily performance) that require patience in the long term. **Be PREPARED TO DEAL WITH CHINA - BEIJING SEGWAY HQ.** We -- wife and I -- commute our 2 kids (10; 12 years) on our 2 Segways. My wife loves her. But, I am the maintenance donkey.

**Hiboy S2 Pro** **Summary:** Less software, less regulation by the manufacturer. Lower maintenance, but smaller deck. Good for 220-250 pounds (but tighten the horizontal deck / shock absorber springs). Very, very quick. Great regenerative breaking. Hard tires, harder ride. Lighter (about 5 pounds lighter at \~34 pounds and smaller frame - 4 inches shorter in deck length; -1.5 inches in deck with -- than Segway Ninebot). Motor is in the front tire. Much lighter compared to Segway (see point on the stem below under durable). Notable: **0. Durable (8/10):** We have had 2 HiBoy S2 Pros. We put >3,200 miles on the first and the second is at \~1,500 miles. With 1st one, I beat the heck outta. Ultimately, the stem cracked off (NB: 2022-2023 HiBoy S2 Pros. Some had a structural issue with the aluminum stem snapping off from the steel post. Ours did. Google it. Its a thing. Anyhow, HiBoy replaced it with a 2024 model. No issues thus far. **1. tires:** standard are solid tires. No punctures. Low maintenance. Hard riding. And slick in the rain. Requires greater awareness when riding. But, no punctures. Solid tires also wear out. But, normally its just the front tire (where the motor is), every spring. Good for city streets, but not cobbles. Cinder paths, and packed dirt roads, but not grass. Watch out for rainy days - go slow. **2. Quick:** 3x quicker than a comparable Segway. Responsive. Easier to maneuver. Like a jack rabbit that also can go the distance. **3. Braking: excellent.** Very, very, very excellent. Very, very responsive. Regenerative braking is the best. Stops very quickly; blows Segway away. Helpful in city environments with cars. On mine, I never use the analog brake. 4. controllers: no **issues.** No heavy regulation by the manfacturer. And, they aren't 'matched' to the scooter SN. **tl;dr:** I prefer the Highboys. My wife prefers the Segway. I like the Highboy quickness and responsiveness. (especially in NYC with cars, pedestrians, etc). But, smaller: harder to ride 2 people. My wife and I can do it, but I put a metal carrier over the back wheel. My sons are too short for the carrier. So, only the youngest (10 fits on the deck; the 12 year old aged out). Also: lower maintenance and no ad hoc 'surprises' like flat tires when one is commuting or its raining, or anything. AND: no manufacturer regulation like the Segways **(and the world the way it is now -- may be an issue down the road).**

HiBoy KS4 Pro for $400, or HiBoy S2 for $300 with less range. My daughter uses the S2 at college and it’s been great for her, but she only rides a few miles per day so range isn’t super important for her. But she goes days in between charging it. I use the KS4 Pro myself and I’ve been happy with it though with me being 230 pounds I don’t get terrific range out of it, especially if I’m riding up hills frequently.

Hey everyone, I'm in the market for an electric scooter primarily for commuting purposes. I weigh around 230 lbs and need a scooter that offers a good range. I previously tried the HiBoy S2, but it only gave me about 6-7 miles at max speed, which isn't sufficient for my needs. I'm looking for a scooter that can provide at least 15 miles of range at top speed. My budget is around $500, and I don't require any fancy features—just reliability and sufficient range. I came across the NIU KQi3 Pro, which seems promising. However, I'm concerned about whether it can deliver the required range given my weight. Does anyone have experience with this model or can suggest alternatives that fit my criteria? Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

I've got a hiboy s2 and i basically use a combination of a u-lock and a password cable lock. But basically because scooter and bike theft is so rampant in my city i only take my scooter out and lock it up if i am somewhere where i will still be able to visually see it like with certain stores or with stores that allow me to lock it up on the inside of the entrance where security can often see the bikes/scooters but anytime i cant do that or i don't have someone else with me to watch it for me then i don't take it with me. As other comments noted, the locks help but ultimately they are just a mere deterrent but wont fully prevent theft because thieves get real dedicated coz all they need is basically enough time and they will grind or bolt cutter most locks. But yeah having said that just make sure you got at least two locks (any combination of two chain locks or a chain lock and u lock etc) and just make sure you don't gamble in certain scenarios, always go with your gut feeling if a place seems sketchy to leave your scooter/bike then it probably isn't worth taking the risk :)

Just depends bro. How much are you trying to spend and what specs are you looking for? I think if you just google best e scooters under x amount that’d be a good place to start and you can get an idea of what features you can afford for what price. For example most dual motor scooters are gonna cost more, bigger battery for more mileage costs more and makes the scooter heavier, turn signals digital cockpit etc costs more so just know what you want and how much you’ve got to spend and go from there 🤙🏾 my first scooter I got like 2 yrs ago was a Hiboy s2 it’s not bad it reads 19 on the display, rear suspension gets about 20 miles and it’s pretty light, cost 300$. I’m about to get an ausom l2 max dual motor here in a few days actually for more speed. I think for a first scooter you can find a good one for under 400 that’ll do what you need it to

This is the correct answer. Build quality on hiboy and gotrax is not sufficient for a daily driver. You don't want to blow money? We'll this is a perfect opportunity to learn how expensive cheap can be. Warranty repair on scooters sucks. You'll at least be on the hook for shipping. Go check what it costs to ship a scooter. We'll wait. You'll be without your scooter for a minimum of 2 weeks but likely much longer. Segways aren't particularly cool looking, they're not particularly inexpensive and they are not particularly light. They're not particularly fast for compared to other scooters that are available for the same money. But they are solidly built scooters that will last if you just do the minimum amount of maintenance on them. Spend a little bit more, check your tire pressure regularly, do the basic maintenance, don't drain the battery all the way before charging and it will last you a long time. Don't ever pay list price for a Segway. If the model you want isn't on sale this week, it probably will be next week. You want reliability, not speed, not a colorful paint job, not a bunch of extra flashy lights. NIU is also a good choice. Hiboy and Gotrax make ok entry level scooters, but they are toys. They generally don't last. They're fine for light-duty recreational use. If this is something that's going to get used everyday rain or shine they're not a good choice.

Hiboys a known brand, they’re pretty reputable, and they’ll stand behind their warranty. You’d probably find a lot of people here who have that and love it and a few people who have it and hate it. But it’s solid if you’re just getting it to commute.
