If it’s just for light neighborhood rides a few times a week, the iScooter i9M is actually a pretty solid pick. It usually goes on sale around this price during Black Friday, has reasonable range, basic suspension, and feels better built than the random off-brand stuff on Amazon. Definitely not a heavy-duty commuter scooter, but for a couple miles at a time it does the job just fine.
I’d keep the speed pretty low for a twelve year old, even twenty mph feels like a lot for school runs. If you want something simple and safe, the iScooter i9M is worth a look. It’s not overly powerful, has adjustable speed modes, and the app lets you cap the top speed so they’re not going too fast. Usually comes in well under five hundred as well. I’ve seen mixed reviews on the brand, but the i9M has been solid for light commuting and is rated for kids 12+.Whatever you pick, helmet and pads are the real must-haves.
For around €400 a commuter-style scooter like the iScooter i8 or iScooter i9M fits your use case well. They’re narrower and lighter than big off-road scooters, still have decent range for daily stuff, and are much easier to carry up and down without wrestling with big handlebars or fat decks. You’ll appreciate the simplicity once you don’t have to lift it every time you enter your building.
If you want something under 500 that you can use every day without it falling apart, two models are worth a look. The iScooter i9M is a solid commuter option for the price,500W motor, decent range, folds easy, totally fine for a 15-mile round trip.
That’s rough, but scooters are actually perfect for this situation. For getting to work and the gym you want something simple and reliable, not a spec monster.I’d look at the iScooter i9M. It has a 500W motor, 10-inch pneumatic tires, decent range for everyday commuting, and a solid build that feels more substantial than the cheap toy scooters. Grab a helmet and you’ll be good to go for work, gym, errands, etc. It’s one of the models that actually feels like you got more than you paid for.
I have the i9M and I love it, already got 180mi in 6 months
If safety is your main concern for your kid, take a look at the iScooter i9M. For this price range it’s one of the safer picks because it uses a properly managed battery system, charges with the matched charger, and isn’t some sketchy no-name pack glued together. It’s also a good “kid-friendly” setup overall, around 20 mph max, stable deck, light enough for a younger rider, and the range is plenty for casual rides without stressing the battery. For parents the biggest win is that it’s a straightforward, reliable commuter scooter instead of a high-powered fire hazard.
iscooter is very unreliable, my iscooter i9 pro has 3 mile range after a year of sporadic use, randomly shuts off, shows the wrong battery level capacity, hydraulics dont work if ur above 75kg. get it if u want a beater to leave at the train station but other than that get a ninebot or something
Do ***not*** buy anything iScooter. Quality-wise we know them as the scrapings from the bottom of the barrel, and their support is known to be terrible to nonexistent. Hiboy are *somewhat* better but their low-end scooters are uncomfortable and not very safe, as they all have solid tires but no suspension on the front fork; they only start being OK above your budget. On a side note, none of these are *manufacturers* - they all import generic scooters from relatively unknown Chinese manufacturers. Only Ninebot/Segway, Niu, Brightway/Navee and a few others make their own scooters. As for suggestions: more info please. In particular, you don't specify a range - we don't know how long the trip to school is. If it's short enough - and keep in mind [the marketing lie factor](https://reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/wiki/rangespecs) - then a Niu KQi1 or KQi 100 could be a good idea. Whatever you get, keep in mind that the tires must be pumped up to specced pressure more often than many people think - ideally weekly. A cheap bicycle pump *with a manometer* works well for this, otherwise they sell electric inflators that are more practical.
$300 wont buy even a decent scooter, must less a good one. If that is the price point you are working with, I would recommend checking the used market. I have ridden Gotrax, iScooter, Segway and eMove scooters, among others. Gotrax was complete garbage, the iScooter was decent, the Segway was built like a tank. I have mixed feelings about eMove Cruisers, which is my current ride. On the one hand the suspension is phenomenal, as is the range. But the tires, brakes and other bits haven’t lasted very long. I don’t have a ton of miles on mine, I right now need to replace both tires, possibly the brake calipers and one of the brake lines snapped for no apparent reason.
