I get you on the Segway G3. The range is pretty underwhelming for the weight, and once a scooter feels like a tank you stop wanting to grab it for quick trips. If you’re okay with ~20–21 mph top speed and just want better mileage in a less bulky package, I’d look at the “commuter” style 500W scooters. Something like the iScooter i9 Max is a good example: lighter than the big Segways, still feels solid, and real-world range is much better for everyday rides. It’s not a crazy fast or off-road machine, but for normal city use it hits a nice balance of speed, range and weight.

Having been scouring for best scooter to buy for first 5 years before buying, then ending up with this as 2nd purchase, I really have nothing bad to say. It delivers EXACTLY and PRECISELY what I need, except battery reliability.... 1. Tires are solid so there's never worry about puncture. Security of driving every day is the most reliable and arguably more reliable than the tiny bit of comfort added. 2. Suspension is great and works like brand new. 3. Realistic range is roughly 20km (which is really only it's bad thing, should be upped to 40km) 4. Has easy ability to unlock full features like Cruise Mode and Zero Start that "some" scooter brands (\*khem\* NAVEE \*khem\*) don't allow, even when EU DOES NOT FORBID use of cruise mode. 5. Incredibly light weight, easy frame to grab, easy attachment and carry mechanism, that maybe only rivals NAVEE GT5 Max, where the pole acts as the locking mechanism in the middle (as far as I understand it), scooter like GT3 that I have has STUPIDLY designed locking mechanism, which PREVENTS adjusting the break handle position. It's so badly designed that putting the break handle in comfortable spot, the locking mechanism completely is ruined. 6. Easy and safe way to lock the scooter through the suspension. 7. Super simple wires. Because the scooter is run on rear, and the breaks also (as I understand) are on rear, there are barely any visible wires on the scooter. The only wire that pokes out is because the frame is able to be bent to be used as carrying handle. This not only helps to make the device more stable, but easier to clean. 8. Super simple locking mechanism for the pole. No need to screw anything or do double adjustments. Always has been super reliable. 9. Grips are very good and easy to hold onto for long duration. Due to easy access to Cruise mode I can just rest my hands on them. And the handlebars are not too long either so the device feels very snappy and fast on hands. No Youtuber talks about these issues because these are ACTUALLY the most important aspects that they try to whitewash with some background music and smiles. Most scooter youtubers are worse than reaction youtube news channels. I got the worst experience with Kukirin G3 scooter prior to Navee GT3 and I can't honestly say outside of GT3 actually surviving whole ride intact, that the actual experience is that much better... Cannot even access basic functionality that SHOULD BE allowed and is other parts of the world... Only bad thing I got to say about iScooter i9max is the battery compartment. And oh well the Bluetooth app is just joke, why name it iRobot or something, that's just 60 IQ move, not really smart choice for branding and building trust to have app thats far away from brand naming... at least some of the more recent scooters they have actual iScooter App I think... Anyway, back to battery compartment, the battery needs to be better protected from water, so that area needs to be completely redesigned to be far more safer for the battery to be hosted in. And battery needs to be upgraded. I had mine break, probably because early morning moisture build up in the battery or something. But other than that, what an amazing scooter. It's so light it can be perfectly carried by hand and have no problems in stairs, which is main mode of transport, even if you live in a house, there might be stairs you need to make to library etc, and it's easy to lock this scooter around. Oh and upgrade the motor from 500w to 1000w to allow easier climbing, and make it more power efficient. If there was just some way to keep the weight in close to it's 15kg, it'd be an incredible scooter outside of those super performance scooters that go like 40-60km/h speeds, but for a legal light weight scooter for EU where we don't have to register them, saving easily 100-200 euros a year due to it, it's an amazing deal, especially when living in apartment building with no elevator, and not trusting my neighbors to keep my scooter stored in bike storage (also would have trouble charging it there anyway). And the fact the device came with solid tyres, being pretty much one of the few models that launched last year with that, I was so impressed, well before the battery completely died out. THANKFULLY I had replacement scooter but oh man I really miss that one, and only wish to have more polished experience of that. Only things to improve: to add carbon fiber body (to lighten up the device while...), upgrade battery(which adds the weight back). The deck could be 5-10cm longer, upgrade the app. Make the battery container safer. If you could make super reliable device like that with modern hardware like super efficient energy motors, with doubling the battery capacity, and securing the battery better, oh man, that one should sell millions easily. Of course this is just me and my needs being met best... and the best part I got that product from sale like 260 euros. What a steal! (Ps. oh yeah, the power button could be housed on the handle but it's REALLY REALLY minor point since you only do press that when you start/finish which is like 1 second of 3600 second ride) (ps:2. also the travel bag that cmoes with the scooter should be designed to be hosted on pole similar to how GT3 has hook to put shopping bag into, so you could attach the travel bag into there, and maybe have a those foldable locks inside them... but I wouldn't have this bag with me anyway, but the hook would be nice addition to the pole!)

Since you are in Spain the most important thing is DGT certification, so stick to models officially listed. From your list the iScooter i9Max DGT is honestly one of the more balanced options in the lower budget range. It covers your 20 km need comfortably in real use, is simple to operate without depending on a phone all the time, and sits well under your 500 euro ceiling.

I have one for over a year now, i use it maybe twice a week. When it was brand new the battery lasted about 20 kms (even though it says 30/40 km on the website). Nowadays the battery only lasts about 10 kms and is rapidily losing capacity. The electric regen works awfully and only activates when you brake. The engine is awful too, barely climbs anything (i'm 70 kilos), Apart from the battery, the scooter is pretty sturdy and feels safe to drive. Tires are pretty cool too. I would not buy another.

Had mine for about 8 months now and agree with most of your points. The solid tires thing is huge - got tired of dealing with punctures in my previous ride and this solved that completely. Weight is definitely one of its strongest features, makes carrying it up to my third floor apartment actually doable without dying. Battery protection is spot on criticism though. Mine hasn't died yet but I'm paranoid about leaving it outside during rainy days. The compartment design feels like an afterthought compared to how well thought out the rest is. Also that app naming choice is just bizarre - took me forever to even find the right one in app store because I was searching for anything with "scooter" in name. Range could definitely be better but for city commuting it works fine. My daily route is about 12km round trip and usually have decent charge left. The unlocking features part you mentioned is interesting - didn't know some brands actually restrict that stuff even when it's legal to use. Makes you appreciate companies that don't treat their customers like children. For the price point you got it at, that's incredible value. Even at full price it's competitive but 260 euros is basically stealing. Hope they do make that upgraded version you're describing because the foundation is definitely solid.

iscooter is very unreliable, my iscooter i9 pro has 3 mile range after a year of sporadic use, randomly shuts off, shows the wrong battery level capacity, hydraulics dont work if ur above 75kg. get it if u want a beater to leave at the train station but other than that get a ninebot or something

Do ***not*** buy anything iScooter. Quality-wise we know them as the scrapings from the bottom of the barrel, and their support is known to be terrible to nonexistent. Hiboy are *somewhat* better but their low-end scooters are uncomfortable and not very safe, as they all have solid tires but no suspension on the front fork; they only start being OK above your budget. On a side note, none of these are *manufacturers* - they all import generic scooters from relatively unknown Chinese manufacturers. Only Ninebot/Segway, Niu, Brightway/Navee and a few others make their own scooters. As for suggestions: more info please. In particular, you don't specify a range - we don't know how long the trip to school is. If it's short enough - and keep in mind [the marketing lie factor](https://reddit.com/r/ElectricScooters/wiki/rangespecs) - then a Niu KQi1 or KQi 100 could be a good idea. Whatever you get, keep in mind that the tires must be pumped up to specced pressure more often than many people think - ideally weekly. A cheap bicycle pump *with a manometer* works well for this, otherwise they sell electric inflators that are more practical.

$300 wont buy even a decent scooter, must less a good one. If that is the price point you are working with, I would recommend checking the used market. I have ridden Gotrax, iScooter, Segway and eMove scooters, among others. Gotrax was complete garbage, the iScooter was decent, the Segway was built like a tank. I have mixed feelings about eMove Cruisers, which is my current ride. On the one hand the suspension is phenomenal, as is the range. But the tires, brakes and other bits haven’t lasted very long. I don’t have a ton of miles on mine, I right now need to replace both tires, possibly the brake calipers and one of the brake lines snapped for no apparent reason.
