Running these analyses costs money. Buy through my links to help keep lights on! I may get a small commission.
The main difference is the voltage. The pro has 48v and the gt3 says "standard"...since they are both 48v I'd assume the pro has a different controller. The pro has much better acceleration too which is more important than top speed in many cases. With the price being close I'd go with the pro...maybe even check out the st3 from Navee.

Both of these are absolute garbage. Get him a niu, ninebot, or navee. The lowest models are around the same price roughly.
Extremely cheap and "higher quality" do not got together here...but for 2.5 miles if you spend $500 you will be all set. Avoid the parts bin temu/amazon crap. It will not last. NIU or ninebot or navee. Either one will be fine for a rather short ride. My job is 6 miles away. At one point I had a go trax and I could get there in like 18 min....i do not recommend go trax though. You best bet is one the "N" brands.
Check out the Navee GT3. It does everything you’ve said you need in this thread and it’s like $459. Read reviews. They’re very well made. I have the GT3 Pro and it rocks.
Successfully climbed a steep 17% incline with the GT3 Pro at 175 lbs.
The 48-volt battery alone is enough for me to pick Navee. Tested both the ST3 Pro and GT3 Pro just recently. Both are exceptionally nice to ride. The ST3 is the more compable, but the regen feels smoother on the GT3 line if that matters to you. Both are super plush and feel heavy-duty. ST will be better on steeper hills while GT is enough for moderate hills. The GT3 Pro JUST managed (slowed down to 8KMH) a 17% incline in my test as a 175 lbs (80 kg) rider. The ST3 was notably stronger on the same hill, as to be expected. Right now the ST3 Pro is the best flagship value in my opinion.
Me and my scooting friends all have gt3s, but I have the pro and the others are just the standard. We don't really notice too much difference in power, but they all do fine with overpasses and normal hills. We have never found a hill that the gt3 can't handle, though it may slow a little.

Navee makes good stuff, but this is bottom of the line. I recommend getting something like a gt3 with some suspension.
It will make a difference if you need to climb any hills. The pro also has a larger battery get that one
I’ve only owned segway and navee brands, both have been good scooters although i do prefer Navee nowadays. Navee GT3 is about as entry level as you can get. I don’t recommend the scooter I own (s65) because it’s not easy to get anymore and it’s few years old, but he would love it. A Full suspension scooter will make his riding safer as well. Anything by Segway, Niu, Navee is going to be pretty reliable for entry level starter scooters (not insanely fast) but depending on your budget you may need something less
Navee gt3 for $399 from best buy beats that segway
I’ve been happy with my 20mph navee for 2yrs, it has just enough oomph to make my rides a little more exciting. My next scooter will do atleast 32mph though, if & when my navee breaks down again
My first two scooters were both $299 segways and they worked out great at the time. My navee was my big purchase at $400, it was originally a $1199 scooter but got big price reductions towards the end of its lifecycle. It definitely was a good deal @ $400 i feel sorry for people paying $400 for a gotrax or m365 junk clone scooters.
The GT3 is actually a solid choice for a teen - it's got good range and build quality without being crazy expensive. If you want to save some cash, look at the Ninebot Max G30LP (usually $200-300 cheaper) or the TurboAnt X7 Pro, both are reliable and won't make him feel like he's riding a toy compared to his friend. Honestly though, if he's riding in Canadian winter at all, I'd just get him the GT3 since it handles wet conditions better than most budget options and you don't want to cheap out and replace it in 6 months. The peer pressure thing is real at that age, and the GT3 isn't overpriced garbage like some of the stuff teens beg for.
