Get something UL certified to diminish the chances of burning your house down while charging it. Also, never use aftermarket chargers, and pair the OEM charger with an outlet timer so you don't accidentally leave it plugged in charging needlessly. I started out with rental scooters and bought my own when I saw the GoGo Phantom A8 on sale at Costco. It's pretty much a consumer version of the rental scooters (at the time). No suspension, lightweight, top speed of 15mph, foldable and overall a decent scooter for the money. Wasn't long before I was ready for an upgrade. I wanted dual motors, faster speeds, longer range, and a suspension. Bought a RoadRunner D4 4.0, which is a super scooter, but not a hyper scooter. Probably all the scooter I'll ever need, to be honest. That thing is one solidly built machine. the rear end of it got run over by a GMC Denali SUV limo that turned in front of me without signaling while I was riding in downtown traffic. I bailed from my scooter and it essentially got sucked under the rear tire of the Denali, which rolled directly over the rear end of it. The driver actually stopped and we did a quick assessment of the damage, which amounted to needing a new rear fender, a new disc for the brake, because it got bent from the weight of the tire, and some minor scratches on the lip of the rim. We looked up the cost of the parts on Roadrunner's website and he paid me in cash on the spot for all the bits I'd have to order. I was fine, and within a week of when the parts arrived in the mail, so was my scooter. I did swap out the off road nubby tires for street slicks, because I commute on pavement. It's easy to work on due to multiple disconnect points along the wiring harness, split rims, and readily available parts. It's big, though, weighing in at just over twice what the little A8 scooter weighs. My advice is to try to anticipate what she'll want out of her scooter eventually. The little commuter is fun and all, but unless she's a hobby hopper for whom once the novelty of something wears off, she's on to the next thing, she will probably want an upgrade before too long and you might be better off in the long run buying more scooter than you think you need or want to accommodate future needs and avoid having to buy two scooters.

I ride in spring, summer and fall (Minnesota). Started with the Costco scooter (Phantom GoGo A8 -15.5mph top speed) it's my little scooter. Still have it, but added 2 more to the stable. My big scooter is a RoadRunner D4 4.0 (40mph, dual motor, weighs a bit over 70 lbs. My goldilocks mid-sized scooter is an Inokim Quick4 Super (single motor, \~25mph, and weighs about 50 lbs -bought it used on marketplace for $360, and it's been lovely). I also have motorcycles, but since getting into e scooters, really don't use them much. I wear a full face enduro helmet and body armor when riding the RoadRunner and the Quick4. For the little scooter, I'm a bit more lax, but still use the helmet. I'm less than half the weight of the RoadRunner's top carrying capacity, and maybe that's why in spite of its listed top speed being 40 mph, I've had it up to 46 on a flat straightaway, and that's about as fast as I think I'll ever care to go on an e-scooter. The sweet speed for me is right around 28mph, which is fast enough that I can get where I'm going in a reasonable amount of time, and slow enough that I can still take in my surroundings in a way that isn't possible when traveling by car, can still feel the breeze and feel more connected to the spaces I move through. The Quick4 is nice for that.

E bike would be better. I live less than a mile from work and my scooter gets me there barely (I have a phantom and lots of hills). I am lucky if I get 2 days between charges... But it was what I could afford at the time.

Guessing you are in the US? Costco Canada has Navee but not on the costco US site. You are better off buying a better scooter elsewhere then buying the Phantom just because its at costco. It's not a good scooter, I have played around with it at costco it feels cheap like a toy. Was going to say get a Ninebot Max G30 from Amazon but apparently they are not available there at the moment, you could check best buy in your area. I got my G30 from costco in May 2020 they have had them for sale on and off there.

My first scooter was the phantom gogo. The customer support is great. They replaced mine quickly after I messed up the breaks on it. I got mine for 350 refurbished. So this is a good deal I think.

I just got a new but used Apollo go from marketplace I talked the dude down to $425 for it when it’s a $1,300 scooter retail it has a top speed of 28mph and a 30 mile range, front and rear suspension which is amazing along with other bells and whistles such as cruise control and different ambient lighting modes. Long story short I would definitely get one from marketplace for the best bang for your buck but if you insist on buying one new the phantom go go scooter from Costco isn’t bad if has like a 24 mile range with a top speed of 15mph the main downside is no suspension but it’s still a nice scooter.

I borrowed my buddy's phantom gogo the other week ( I have a segway max g2). it's not bad for the price, but it made me realize how much more comfortable and how nice it was to have the extra speed on my g2. Phantom Gogo is not bad for $400.
