Based on 1 year's data from Feb 24, 2026 How it works
I just got the E2 E II for my wife to do 4-8km a day. We have cycling lanes and honestly, it's perfect π , it was on sale this Saturday for 230 USD.
The Segway e2 will serve your purpose just fine, just try not to deliberately ride through deep rain puddles.
Good parenting there! The E2 still stands up especially as a family option or a teen ride!
Segway e2 3 years still going strong not a single repair π except a water issue i did myself during year 2?
Itβs actually less safe because itβs so cheap, it probably use cells of dubious quality, shoddy wiring and sketchy parts. If youβre worried about something catching on fire while itβs charging or breaking, donβt get this one. Get a Segway E2 made by a reputable brand and designed for kids and teens.
O have an E2 (not the pro version) and itβs perfect for my 8kms commute with several hills for each side. A bit of over 16kms in total and still get around 20% left at the end of the day.
If you're not sensitive to price, there's nothing wrong with this model. Lots of comments about the price here, which is fair if you're bargain-hunting, but if you just want to pick up something that's readily available, this will do. However, this is definitely in the "light duty" category. It's 41 pounds without any hydraulic shocks. And it's a Segway. It's one of the more respected brands so in-general you're looking at the least amount of possible problems. It depends on the model, though. Haven't heard anything bad about the E2 line. Just know that, I'm assuming that your status as "never owned one before" means you're not a DIY repair pro & if anything goes wrong you're going to get tagged for $200+ from PEV repair places (you might get tires swapped for $125 apiece if that is all the maintenance you ever need). Just know that is possibly coming if you are price-sensitive. My first scooter, a Segway, lasted a long time without needing third-party help even though it was a model known to have problems - not dealbreaker problems like fire risk or breaking frames, but stupid things like "it would not charge anymore because the internal connectors were not robust enough for a scooter with hard tires that hit every bump in the road" (I was lucky and it held up).
With your weight, almost any adult scooter is suitable for you. Given the short travel distance, scooters with small batteries are also suitable. I would consider Ninebot scooters, as they have more reliable electronics, and the mechanical parts are also quite reliable. For example, Ninebot scooters Es series (Es1, Es2, Es4), F series(F25, F35, F45), G30, G2 (used ones can be bought for $ 300, and this would be the best solution for the money), E2. Of all the scooters listed, the Es series has a folding mechanism, which makes it easier to store it leaning against the wall, placing it on the front wheel, and using a wall mount. Other scooters can also be stored in this way, but due to the design features, they will bulge strongly from the wall, and it is not very convenient to put them on 1 wheel. Xiaomi scooters also performed well, such as the m365, m365 pro, etc. Inexpensive kukirin scooters can also be considered, but they often have mechanical problems, and the electrics sometimes fail, although due to their mass production, spare parts for them are cheaper than for other scooters.
Have a look at the segway ninebot E2 series. They should be pretty decent for you since you don't need that much mileage. note that whatever mileage they are claiming is based on a ride weighing 165lbs in ideal conditions. Whether you are heavier than that or not, you will get less mileage than the advertised claim.
I've been using my partner's Segway Ninebot eScooter to commute to work regularly for two summers now and have been very happy with it. He bought it locally at Best Buy. It's definitely not the cheapest eScooter, but I'd say it's worth it!
