I have the ES2 and the solid rubber tires suck. Uneven surfaces have made me fall several times. The range is pretty low, you can get a battery pack added for almost the price of the scooter lol and i have seen people saying the errors caused by the batteries make them inoperable. I been looking at the TurboAnt X7 Max i can get 2 for 800$ and has more range than the ES2
I got this exact setup for my commute last year! Was taking metro then scooting about 2 miles to my gym location. Ended up with the Ninebot ES2 - it's like 27 pounds and folds super easy. Battery lasts way longer than you'd need for 4 miles, probably could do it 3-4 times before charging. Only thing is make sure to check if your metro allows scooters during rush hour, some lines get weird about it in the mornings. Also get used to folding/unfolding it smooth before you start commuting because doing it awkwardly with bunch of people around is embarrassing lol
For that distance and weight the Xiaomi Mi 1S or Ninebot ES2 are solid budget picks that won't fall apart on you - both handle short commutes like a champ and you can usually snag them used for pretty cheap

It has been 6 years and finally I have now upgraded to the Xiaomi Scooter 6.
Wow, what a difference.
Going from 8” to 12” wheels has been a game changer. It’s like i’m just gliding.
I’m constantly getting 15mph, where as any sort of wind resistance would cause me to drop speeds on the ES2.
Even though it’s heavy and large, i’ve still been able to easily bring the scooter with me into a supermarket such as Tesco or a corner shop.
See you later ES2, it survived and treated me well for 6 years!
Honestly, ninebot quality is 10/10. I did have issues with my ES2 - Error 21 / Error 14 but I had the scooter for 6 years. It did its job.
I woulda gone for another ninebot scooter but since the Xiaomi scooter 6 just came out last month pretty much with the 12" wheels, i thought yeah i like that haha
With the ES2, i felt everything and also it was very risky to go over anything that wasn't flat. I fell 2 or 3 times as a result.
Now, it's actually like butter. Naturally you still need to be safe and aware but I feel more confident to take risks.
It is scarier to ride due to the size difference, but that's just a matter of getting used to it.
