Based on 1 year's data from Feb 24, 2026 How it works
honestly the ES4 is pretty dated at this point but for 100€ that's not terrible if it's in decent shape. Just make sure the battery hasn't completely degraded and check for any stem wobble issues since those were common on the older ninebots.
If I were you, I would pay attention to small scooters weighing up to 14 kg, such as Ninebot ES, Xiaomi m365 or analogues. It is better to consider scooters with inflatable tires, they need to be monitored more, but the trips will be more comfortable. With your small weight, if you ride mainly on sidewalks and asphalt, then if there are inflatable wheels, there is no point in suspensions. With your small weight, most suspensions will not add much comfort, but the presence of a suspension in the scooter adds weight to it. Also pay attention to the dimensions, it will be inconvenient to bring a large scooter into the bus / subway. As a person who works physically, carrying heavy loads every day, wearing a scooter weighing even 24 kg is not a pleasure. I don't even recommend a scooter weighing 19 kg to you, it's not just hard, but it can lead to back injuries. If you don't work as a loader, then you won't really like carrying even 14 kg every day. I judge by the example of girls I know who are uncomfortable lifting a Ninebot es4 weighing 14.5 kg, but a xiaomi m365 weighing 12 kg is calmly lifted to the 3rd floor.
With your weight, almost any adult scooter is suitable for you. Given the short travel distance, scooters with small batteries are also suitable. I would consider Ninebot scooters, as they have more reliable electronics, and the mechanical parts are also quite reliable. For example, Ninebot scooters Es series (Es1, Es2, Es4), F series(F25, F35, F45), G30, G2 (used ones can be bought for $ 300, and this would be the best solution for the money), E2. Of all the scooters listed, the Es series has a folding mechanism, which makes it easier to store it leaning against the wall, placing it on the front wheel, and using a wall mount. Other scooters can also be stored in this way, but due to the design features, they will bulge strongly from the wall, and it is not very convenient to put them on 1 wheel. Xiaomi scooters also performed well, such as the m365, m365 pro, etc. Inexpensive kukirin scooters can also be considered, but they often have mechanical problems, and the electrics sometimes fail, although due to their mass production, spare parts for them are cheaper than for other scooters.

I have a Segway nine bot es4. Very basic scooter and is 5 years old. I get 30km/h on flat and around 16/17 going up Franklin bike path.
Unreliable, uncomfortable and a badly thought-out design in general. They were terrible even when they were new and time has done nothing to improve on that. I wouldn't suggest getting one even if it was free, and I'm not exaggerating for comedic effect.
I exchanged my first Segway ninebot es4-800 bird refurbished deal from Walmart in 2021. It about killed me when going down a hill and touch the brake paddle and the front wheel locked up on me and I somehow didn't fly over the handlebar. Exchanged it for warranty for a Segway ninebot max g30lp and I still own it today. Although not factory anymore, the deck itself has over 10k miles on it. About to put a different motor in that supposedly has stupid amount of torque. Told backflip power around 180amps phase. Gonna probably program to top out at 200amps for the motor on 16s. Some guys are running 30s now with this specific motor to have stupid torque in a single motor and have an 80mph top speed... 32kw is what some are running dual motor.
First and second scooter were made by Voyager. The **Ion** followed by the **Dash Charge Commuter Pro**. I really liked the build in the two of them; with the latter being much more substantial, included a built-in wireless phone charger, and offered cruise control. I’ve since moved into Segway with the ES4 (external secondary battery) and with the number of residential fires involving exploding scooters, I’ll stick with Segway for now.
I have a segway ninebot es4 that I bought second hand for the same reason just before COVID. I have a car & license now so I don't use it but it seems to still be working fine. Claimed range is 45km but I don't know what it would get in the real world as it depends on terrain, hills etc. I'd probably put it on trade me/marketplace for $300-350.
I bought a old lime es4 for $50 that on this controller and dashboard has done over 1100 miles. I'd say that's the budget option that keeps living
It’s not a popular scooter or really recommended anymore but Segway ES1/2/3/4 E22/25 are the best most portable last mile scooters for taking on buses and trains or waymo and ubers and throwing them into the grocery cart to shop. They fold up very compactly and weigh around 26lbs. You can also add external battery to them although they become less reliable with the battery. I had an ES1 and put around 1500mi on it. I gifted it to my neighbor and they love it
There was with the Segway ES series, but not really anymore. There’s no money in it for them. Their profit margins are way better with 100lb scooters with massive batteries, suspensions, that go 50+ mph
Segway ES series are rickety pieces of junk but they are pretty reliable as long as you don't add an external battery. The ride quality is horrible. They are really small scooters for an adult but also very portable.
I've been using my partner's Segway Ninebot eScooter to commute to work regularly for two summers now and have been very happy with it. He bought it locally at Best Buy. It's definitely not the cheapest eScooter, but I'd say it's worth it!
