The only advantage of this scooter is that it is very compact. But all other technical characteristics do not differ from scooters of the average price category. In addition, it is quite expensive for the same average price category. The weight is 16.2 kg, so it's not even light. You need a compact scooter when traveling, not a compact scooter for storage. And the main problem with any device with moving parts is the breakdown of these very moving parts. The more moving parts there are in the device, the more often it will break. This additional folding mechanism will cause a lot of problems. You will also have to put your feet to the left and right of the frame to ride this scooter. This is not only unsafe, but also not comfortable. The natural position of the legs when riding is when one foot is in front and the other is behind, it is safe and comfortable. In fact, all scooters with a standard handlebar height are much more comfortable to drive for people of low stature, as it is more physically comfortable when the handlebar is in the chest area, rather than in the waist area. Almost all new scooter models weigh more than 15 kg (rather more than 16 kg). If the main thing for you is weight, not shock absorption, range, maximum speed, and all that modern scooters offer. It is worth paying attention to the old models of scooters. Xiaomi m365/1s/pro, Ninebot f25/f45/f2/e2. These are excellent scooters, lightweight and reliable, and they are quite inexpensive.
Can't help you about reviews, but I *can* tell you - from the tech specs and from user reports here - that E-series Ninebots below the E3 Pro aren't actually very good. They have weak powertrains and tiny ranges and they'll choke on any uphill; personally I'd avoid them all. The E3 Pro specifically is the only one with a half-decent powertrain; I'd imagine that's why people have more things to say about it. I *would* choose a Xiaomi 5 before any E-series, but I'd choose a Ninebot F3, cheaper F2, or even the older G30 before the Xiaomi 5.
It depends on how much DIY work you're comfortable doing. If you're at ease with wrenches and soldering irons, then you can get whatever cheapie is sold in your department store and probably be happy with it (though I'd still recommend avoid solid tires for reasons explained here: http://reddit.com/r/electricscooters/wiki/solidtires). I'd avoid the Aliexpress bottom-of-the-barrel stuff; they're typically exactly the same as department store cheapies, but battery quality is a complete unknown and they have very little liability. At least if you buy from Target or something you can bring it back to them if it croaks. If you do *not* want to put in any work, then get a Ninebot E3 Pro or F3. The older G30 and F2 are also excellent options.
Hi!! Currently on a Ninebot F2 that I love! It’s amazing. Half planning to get a second scooter someday. Not picked a model yet.
In my experience my ninebots have always been reliable and quality. I think you would be hard to go wrong. I had the f2 which i loved but the e2 plus seems great for an 11 year old! Peppy enough they wont be bored but still safe! Through my experience riding escooters up to 60mph and ebikes. Please please please. Helmet and gloves MINIMUM for your kid. Elbow and knee pads are also HIGHLY recommended. ive talked to trauma doctors in the er after big crashes and the amount of kids getting messed up on these things due to no helmets and gear is insane. Nothing worse than roadrash/scraped skin. I dont want to discourage you. With appropriate gear this will genuinely change your kids life and keep him safe! Sorry for the rant i just have seen the consequences of not wearing gear even on a slow scooter. Rant aside. I dont think your gonna go wrong with the scooter! Goodluck!
I can also vouch for ninebot. I have an f2 that I have absolutely ridden like I stole it. Great scooter for the price
I have an f2 and a E kick from ninebot. I do believe you're paying a little bit for the ninebot name, but from my experience it's worth it. I picked up an F2 that had only been rode 4 times by the previous owner for $200 (a steal) on marketplace. The build quality is definitely there, I absolutely love the f2. It's not even in the same league as my new vmax, yet I still use it for trips I can't bring the max inside or if it's rough riding. I'm 170 and ride the scooters like I stole them. Our Gotrax is also solid reliability wise, as my 8 yrs old nephew hasn't destroyed it yet, despite trying his hardest lol
I have a ninebot F-SE(F2) and have been enjoying it until my vmax arrives. It has held up to constant riding daily for a few weeks now and I'm 170lbs. Love this little scooter, and will keep using it even after my new one arrives. This thing is super light and can be carried through a store.
If you're not sensitive to price, there's nothing wrong with this model. Lots of comments about the price here, which is fair if you're bargain-hunting, but if you just want to pick up something that's readily available, this will do. However, this is definitely in the "light duty" category. It's 41 pounds without any hydraulic shocks. And it's a Segway. It's one of the more respected brands so in-general you're looking at the least amount of possible problems. It depends on the model, though. Haven't heard anything bad about the E2 line. Just know that, I'm assuming that your status as "never owned one before" means you're not a DIY repair pro & if anything goes wrong you're going to get tagged for $200+ from PEV repair places (you might get tires swapped for $125 apiece if that is all the maintenance you ever need). Just know that is possibly coming if you are price-sensitive. My first scooter, a Segway, lasted a long time without needing third-party help even though it was a model known to have problems - not dealbreaker problems like fire risk or breaking frames, but stupid things like "it would not charge anymore because the internal connectors were not robust enough for a scooter with hard tires that hit every bump in the road" (I was lucky and it held up).
I’m using Segway F2-2. It’s fine but a little bit big for me (I’m 5’2, 55kg). The scooter is lightweight but can be wiggly when it’s very windy. I always use the sport mode so I can only go around 25km after fully charged.
Rent wise (bird, uber, lime) they’re probably all the same. Long term, buying a scooter was such a great investment for getting around campus without a car. I personally use a Segway Ninebot (F2) scooter.
