I went through something similar last year and learned the hard way that spec sheets do not tell the full story. Two scooters can look identical on paper but ride completely different. Things like tuning, suspension feel and braking response matter a lot. That CA$15 off every CA$150 spent is cool but not relevant at this level. If the Segway feels more planted, that extra cost might be worth every dollar.
My first was GT1. No regrets.
Just got a segway gt1 for 1899.00 goes 60km an hour. 50km range. Thing handles pretty nice.
Your doing the right thing testing the waters first - way too many people drop serious cash on something they've never tried before and end up with an expensive garage decoration The motor thing is partially true but it's more nuanced than that. Yeah, a lot of brands source from the same suppliers but the difference is usually in the quality control, firmware tuning, and component selection. Segway tends to have better build quality and their customer service actually exists, while Apollo can be hit or miss depending on which batch you get. I've seen people with identical looking motors where one brand's version runs smooth for years and another starts having issues after six months For your commute situation those expansion joints are going to be brutal on any scooter without decent suspension. The GT1 has better shock absorption which might save you from that teeth-rattling experience you mentioned. Plus Segway's app integration is pretty solid if your into tracking stats and tweaking performance settings That CA$200 difference might seem steep but if this becomes your daily driver for work it's probably worth it for the peace of mind. Nothing worse than being late because your scooter decided to act up on a Tuesday morning
You could go for a Segway GT3, not the pro model. It’s a decent price cheaper and hits 31 at least. Plus if you in LA, Segway LA is an official repair shop for Segway. You can check out some of the scooters directly as well and get a better check on it (I got my GT1 there, 7k miles on it now I think!)
Oh interesting! I remember being said the GT3 had it missing, I have a GT1 and the guardian mode set up whenever I need to park it somewhere for long periods of time. I might be thinking of different changes but I haven’t checked the main security differences in awhile
I would say check for an older model cruiser from voro, you’d the battery is super big and will last the ride easily. The new models are above your limit, they do have the sit down roadrunner se that’s under 1k that says it can do 20 miles range at 20 mph, so if you can charge it at work that could work. Maybe check around for a used model, I’ve seen some people selling Segway GT1 and if you keep that at 20 or 15 you’ll for sure get the range out of it.
I tried the GT1 suspension one time.. It was absolute dog shit compared to [what I'm used to](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOBzBAo5V9Y&t).
The newest GT models do have this aswell. It uses the motorcycle horns it has for the alarm so it's even louder
The Segway website has every repair part you could possibly need. However, with the recent tariffs, it is made things difficult to source. But generally, anything you need is on there to fix. Every part. I replaced batteries, tires, brakes, all really easy. Plus the bonus of having a universal laboratories, American fire rating, gives me comfort when I sleep at night at my house is not gonna burn down
