I just want to know the real-world range I can expect on the Mantis King GT with my 140 lbs. Because we apply the common “advertised range ÷ 2” rule, we get about 28 miles. That’s not much better than many scooters under $1,000. The King GT costs twice as much, and while it has nice features, the range doesn’t seem impressive. I canceled my preorder for 899 dollars Seagway Max G3 because I found from first owners that even 25 miles is a stretch for this models.

It’s actually funny, but I had preorder for G3 Max but I canceled it as soon as I’ve learned that I’m unlikely going to get more than 25 miles on it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty decent scooter, but it primarily for people who takes shorter trips.

Inflatable tyres, ideally tubeless pneumatic self-healing tyres (those have a layer of slime to prevent most minor flats). A level up from that is front and back suspension, like on the new Segway Max G3.

If you never rode a scooter and can't borrow one to give it a try, its probably better to waste A$200 than go all in on A$1800. But without question the Segway will be the better scooter, but considering its brand new I would still wait a bit for independent reviews. There are also cheaper models from Segway, NIU and others. For my first scooter I also went with an iScooter E9D (same model as yours but had back suspension), was around €210. It did its job for about 1200km I ridden it, but by that time I got the Ninebot Max G30LP that was way better in all aspects; and eventually sold the E9D scooter for €150.

I went with Segway because I wanted US support after the sale. I also saw in the sub that people had good luck. I am happy with my G3 so far (6 days in).

I live in Ohio and I bought it to ride around the neighborhood. It’s still chilly so I haven’t had a chance to really ride it. It’s fast and solid. I like it so far. I’m a big guy (300 lbs) and am impressed how it can move me around.

The G3's battery is a bit bigger than the G30's but the scooter is so much more powerful that range is drastically reduced.

Honestly, if you've ever ridden a bike, you can ride a scooter. If you've ever skateboarded, you can ride a scooter, and every easily. If you're unsure, hit your downtown corridor and find a rental. It takes like 2 minutes or less to get comfortable. That said, if you find you like the ride and you know you're gonna use it, don't buy a starter, it's just a waste of money. Speed modes can regulate how fast you go, so you can always leave it on a lower setting until you're fully comfortable. All this means is buy a well built, quality scooter that will last. And by that I don't mean something like a dualtron ultra that's $3k+. Segway ninebot max is under $1k and that's more than enough for most people.

r/ElectricScooters • Seriously, buy a starter scooter. ->

Anything from Segway/Ninebot. The have superior waterproofing and stability in wet conditions. Ideally G30/G2/G3 line, those are the most robust ones.
