I am a scooter rider and it really depends on your budget. It is highly recommended to get a scooter from a reputable brand and that come with some basic safety features like a turn signals and a proper rear facing light. Although they can be somewhat expensive, its very much worth the extra dollar, so you can stay safe while having the freedom of micro mobility. For my recommendations: NIU, VMAX, Segway have really good scooters. Avoid the cheap ones that don't have the safety features. They have decent range and have a built in gps locator, so even if someone steals it, you can find it. However, I would not worry about theft because gradguard will cover it. Other reputable brands include Gotrax and Apollo. Both are pretty good, but I don't have much experience with Gotrax. Apollo, on the otherhand, is also a great brand if you can stomach the cost. However, before you set your eyes on an escooter. Range anxiety is a real issue. The reported ranges and top speeds are the brands testing under very good conditions and very light riders and often times on the slowest setting. They are not accurate most of the time. Do not buy from non reputable brands. I do not want to see someone's dorm or house burning down because they bought a cheap scooter from a random company. I also recommend to buy a full face helmet, knee pads, and gloves even on entry level scooters. PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. ADHERE TO TRAFFIC LAWS. YOUR NOT A PEDESTRIAN WHEN YOU STEP FOOT ON THAT SCOOTER OR BIKE. I see too many people on campus not adhering to basic traffic laws on both scooters and bikes. Also watch how to properly ride a scooter and make sure to practice on the weekends. Although I am currently injured from falling off my own scooter (broken arm because I was being an idiot and tried to do a trick on it). If you want I can still teach you how to ride a scooter. Just privately message me about the time and date and I'll let you know if I can. Edit: I went through the gradguard policy again, they will not cover anything motorized, so invest in a good lock.
That's incorrect. I've posted about my fender clip falling off mid ride and being told it's a wear and tear part. They're dead to me.
Thing didn't even last a year. Tried to hammer it back together in the hopes I could walk it to the bus, but it fell apart again and tried to take my foot off in the process, so I've left the scrap for the local tweakers to have fun with. Got it this summer after my VMAX broke the one single part they don't sell replacements for after barely 2 months of use. I'm tired, man. Any recommendations for one that hopefully will fall apart less? I don't need anything super high grade, but solid wheels are a must-have (never making that mistake again, VMAX). Suspension is also a requirement for anything with solid wheels ofc. Decent motor would be nice since there are a few hills where I live and I'm pretty sure the constant kicking I had to do to get the Segway running shortened the lifespan. I've seen a few posts from this sub and I figure y'all would know your stuff when it comes to this. Oh, also. It's not a requirement for any replacement recommendations, but if possible I would really love to never have to install an app on my phone to get my scooter to run ever again. I am not a very religious person but if a manufacturer makes me install an app to make their non-phone related device work they are a thrall of Satan.
They are nice while they last, but they can be frustrating in certain ways. There *is* still a lot to love about this model, even if I would hesitate to buy it again. It had some very lovely suspension and the wheels were excellent quality. Very lightweight and decently sturdy too. For the price I got it at ($250 on sale) it was a very good deal, but it tended to degrade because of the environments I had to use it on--and admittedly due to some poor maintenance on my part, since I am very much new to the whole owning a scooter thing. Ultimately while I can't speak to the other segway products (though I would imagine they have similar upsides and downsides to this one), I think it's a good purchase if you just need something really quick to get you out of a jam and don't care too much about quality. I don't regret buying it, but I *do* regret not replacing it a tiny bit sooner.
For most of my life I was severely underweight for my age and despite eating a few thousand calories a day I have only ever gotten up to 140 max in my entire lifetime. Weight is not an issue, it's just pretty bad motors since this one was mostly made exclusively for people who live in either Arizona or Wyoming, and I had to get it quickly to be able to get to my job. I definitely don't want to fork over a good few thousand like I've seen some of the high end stuff cost, otherwise I'd probably get a bike, but I have enough in my bank account that I could maybe go up to $2000 if my arm was being twisted. Preferred under or around $1000. I haven't heard of Teverun before, but some of their stuff does look pretty cool, thanks for the rec! Still a little pricey for my end, but if I find something really good from their stock I'd definitely be fine forking over the cash. Long term maintenance is definitely a plus lol.
VMAX are the equivalent of sleeper cars, they look basic but man they have power I own one and have over 2k miles on it
I have an f2 and a E kick from ninebot. I do believe you're paying a little bit for the ninebot name, but from my experience it's worth it. I picked up an F2 that had only been rode 4 times by the previous owner for $200 (a steal) on marketplace. The build quality is definitely there, I absolutely love the f2. It's not even in the same league as my new vmax, yet I still use it for trips I can't bring the max inside or if it's rough riding. I'm 170 and ride the scooters like I stole them. Our Gotrax is also solid reliability wise, as my 8 yrs old nephew hasn't destroyed it yet, despite trying his hardest lol
