A year ago, I bought the basic Oral B “cross-action power” model which uses AA batteries. Unfortunately, the rotation mechanism turned faulty after a few months. Replacing heads doesn’t fix it. So would recommend not buying that model.

I currently use a Quip. It was gifted to me and comes in a slim case. Before that I used a cheap Oral-B that I bought in a drugstore for under $10USD. I would keep one spare battery in my toiletry bag just in case: https://www.cvs.com/shop/oral-b-complete-battery-powered-toothbrush-color-may-vary-prodid-1011371?skuId=214174&cgaa=QWxsb3dHb29nbGVUb0FjY2Vzc0NWU1BhZ2Vz&cid=ps_oralc_pla&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21026148449&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7M-psbmsjwMVhGZHAR0UICYYEAQYASABEgJ9h_D_BwE

I bought the Oral-b AA battery travel one and like it. In fact my travel shaver is also AA powered and fine too.

Just by reading your description (I didn’t watch the video) it sounds correct. There’s more than one proper technique, it just depends what you’re trying to achieve. Look up Bass brushing method, as this is the one we recommend to people 99% of the time. But if this doctor is someone like a periodontist or specialist of some kind, he may be recommending you a different way which is fine. We’re just gently trying to disrupt plaque on a regular basis, it’s definitely not like scouring dirty dishes. A lot of people aren’t brushing properly. Most of us get taught how to do it in 2nd grade and nobody teaches you again when you’re an adult (it’s different technique for children). As long as you’re removing plaque ok your hygienist might not have reviewed brushing with you. Next time you go for your appointment have them go over it with you. Some people are way too heavy handed. Holding the handle lightly in your fingertips, or using your non dominant hand are both little strategies we use especially in periodontist offices to help people avoid that autopilot muscle memory of scrubbing too hard that is so often happening. Always extra soft toothbrush no matter what. I prefer the Nimbus if you want to use manual, or Oral B with the gum care extra soft heads if you want electric. And finally recession can be caused by so many things. Hard brushing could be contributing, but if it’s generalized throughout your entire mouth I’d be looking more into clenching and grinding forces as a likely culprit. Things like history of braces can also affect recession, and so can an improper bite. There can be a lot of factors at play.

Yes brush your tongue or use a scraper daily. Huge for reducing oral bacteria. Oral B is much better than Sonicare imo but whatever you use, don’t apply pressure onto the tooth with it, just rest it lightly. You can flip the TB head vertically to help fit into those spaces, if the guy is a periodontist no need to be skeptical you can adopt his tips and benefit. He’s not being weird, I often have to tip my brush like that in the front teeth, the key is to make sure the toothbrush bristle is touching your gum tissue gently so basically whatever you have to do to attain that. The shape of the oral B is round so it might reach those areas for you without causing such a mess. I order the Nimbus on Amazon, it comes with a few in one pack I think. Periodontists like manual brushes because they are harder to hurt yourself with. Most people are too heavy handed with electric. Hygienists and dentists like electric because they typically do a better job of cleaning than manual. Two schools of thought, two valid viewpoints. Work with your hygienist to see what gives the best results for you.

Got the cheapest Oral B Braun model from nearby Walgreens, I was like 30 bucks, still strong after 5 years, even rubber not coming off or feel sticky. It’s the model has no additional function besides power On/Off.

It might not be BIFL, but my Oral B rotating head toothbrush is going on 10. Years old. I also have a Shower Breeze water flosser in my shower and use every time I shower. My hygienist and dentist frequently comment on the health of my gums.

r/AskIrelandWhich electric toothbrush is best? I’ve always used a manual toothbrush. I’ve seen over time if you brush the teeth hard with a manual brush which I tend to do, it can lead to receding/recession gum disease.

I've had the oral B rotating ones for ages but ended up switching to Philips sonicare, a million times better in all aspects for me. It cleans much better throughout, no gum damage, quicker and the heads last longer. They are more expensive to replace, but they are worth it in the long term with less replacements needed. There are alternative heads on Amazon that are cheaper, some are good but others can destroy your gums, so it's a hit and miss if you take the cheaper replacement option. I believe even the basic models of sonicare have pressure monitoring, if you press it too hard it will give you a warning.

I agree the gimmicks are annoying, but a rotating brush is leagues better than simply vibrating. Oral-b is the only toothbrush I’ve found that rotated and functions nearly as well as the polisher the dentist uses.

Do you guys find it cleans well? Looking at version 2.0. I never tried a sonic toothbrush but I've read some people find it too gentle. I'm using an oral b rotating and I don't enjoy the experience (big and bulky, rubber wears off, gets dirty, very noisy) but leaves my clean well cleaned
