I usually recommend the Philips Sonicare or Oral B iO 3. I think the iO 3 hits a sweet spot of features, price, and performance.
The traditional Oral B electric toothbrushes just had an oscillating head. The iO series features “micro vibration” in the head sorta like Sonicare. I have it from first person reports from someone that has used the old Oral B vs the new iO brush that the iO brush is way better and cleans much better. So yes, iO is noticeably better.
Phillips Sonicare and the Oral B iO3 are two I recommend. The really expensive ones with Bluetooth that can track your brushing on an app really are not necessary. Using an electric toothbrush requires a different technique than a manual toothbrush so make sure you read the instructions and watch any videos the manufacturer has on how to best use it. Stay away from the ones that use AA batteries.
Oral B! The round brush head really makes a difference because it kind of cups your tooth. You need to move it like you’re polishing each tooth. I have gum issues and was using a lower model Oral B for a while that was doing ok but I didn’t like how loud it was and it felt like the battery was giving out. Decided to try Sonicare - I liked the brush itself but after 2 months I had a dentist appt and my gums had gotten worse. The hygienist was like “why did you do that” lol. So, I got an Oral B iO Series 3 and I love it. I know it’s doing a better job, and I’m looking forward to my next appt.
I bought the $159 one when it was on sale. I'm not a big fan of it because there is a gap between the base of the head part and the handle. It allows the toothpaste water to leak out after use and dries up on the handle. It seems like it was made for you to remove the head and clean it after every use, which is a pain
I have an oral b io5 series brush. It's quiet and has a sensitive mode but still cleans really well. Although they are a bit on the expensive side so it might not fit into your budget at all. The io3 series might fit in to your budget if you can find it on sale and in terms of brushing performance is just as good.
Honestly you only need one which has a pressure sensor and two minute timer. Check out electric teeth YouTube channel, I think he recommend the io3 as a budget option since the motor is the same and it’s just extra useless features in the higher models
I bought an Oral B io3 from Boots. Very impressed and a huge upgrade from my Oral B Pro brush. Teeth feel much cleaner already. Thanks all for the replies.
Sonicare 4100 or Oral b io 3. They're both great budget electric toothbrushes that have all the basic features you need. Ai features on toothbrushes are mostly gimmicky. Use rest money to get extra toothbrush heads, water flosser or good dental floss.
Not the dentist but I got the Oral-B iO3 on sale and it’s the best toothbrush I’ve ever used. I think it’s better than the 1000, which I used for years before getting this one.
Oral-B iO is far better than Sonicare I found. I've had five Philips Sonicare toothbrushes; each time they would last about 2 years before the metal spike that goes into the head loosened & the thing became near useless. Every one. Once Oral-B's 'ultrasonic' iO was out, I got one & it's been almost 3 years. Still works like new. I find it far more effective & the design appears to have a more robust connection to the head (I was curious so took it out of the casing to look), although the case itself might be less forgiving if dropped as it's quite thin hard plastic at the top. Bonus feature is the battery is user replaceable for when it stops holding a good charge. In terms of which series, I have Series 3 because that's all there was, and I would just get the cheapest (Series 1?) since the mechanism itself is the same. The extra costs seem to be mostly for bit of extra programming for 'modes', buttons/LEDs/displays/bluetooth & over priced unnecessary accessories, none of which changes the function & ability to simply clean teeth. Just to be clear: Oral-B iO, not simply any Oral-B toothbrush! :)
Dental hygienist here. I’ve used both types of brushes and both are great. I personally love the round head from oral b and oscillating action, HOWEVER I hate how disgusting their brushes get. They have a round opening on the handle that collects bacteria and gets gross. I am planning on switching to a Sonicare again after years of being an oral-b user. Both brushes are well research and would be solid choices though.
