r/BuyItForLifeIs it worth paying more for the high-end Sonicares, or are the basic ones just as effective?

I use a mid range IO-6 from Oral-B. The Sonicare tickles the shit out of my mouth. I did kind of get used to it, but ended up passing it on to someone else because I found myself brushing less over it. Anyway, I couldn't see the point of buying the $300 IO-9, I leave the IO-6 on "Daily Clean" and don't care how long it takes to charge, or about a color screen etc. If by cheap you mean like no name brand sonic toothbrushes, avoid. When I got interested in a nicer brush, I picked up a sonic brush from Amazon from some random Chinese brand. It REALLY tickled my mouth. Then I bought the Sonicare, which was light years better. Yes, they both made vibrations, but the way they did was two different worlds. Anyway, I bought the Sonicare and it was a lot better, but I just couldn't gen with it. Despite giving it my best effort. Finally, picked up the Oral-B IO 6 Series and couldn't be happier. The addition of a mechanical aspect completely removes the stickling form the sinic action. My teeth have never been cleaner. 100% would buy again and would recommend it! I got mine directly from my dentist for $100. Ask if your dentist has a discounted supply.

Brushing is usually recommended to take 2 minutes, but flossing every day already puts you at better oral hygiene than many people, myself included. I have an electric toothbrush and I will say, the vibrations were something I didn't like to begin with, but I have very much gotten used to them. My toothbrush oralB i6 or something like that, has different settings, and some are much milder vibrations than others. I also played french horn in school, and the way you play makes your lips vibrate. I *hated* this for the first few days or a week or something, and it would leave my lips feeling super weird, but after a bit, I didn't xperience that at all! I would suggest that only your boyfriend gets an electric toothbrush for now. You don't both have to brush your teeth the same way! But, this also give you the chance to try it out for a bit longer than just holding one in a shop. Most come with one extra head to start, and you can try using that for, say, two weeks? And if it doesn't get more tolerable in that time, just don't bother. A manual toothbrush is ok!! But, I would say it's worth testing and seeing if it is something that gets less bad with time.

I've got the io6 and it does this, or something similar. Usually it'll get down to about 65%, then die on the next brush.

TL;DR: Go electric, it's worth it 👌 My last three dentists have all recommended electric toothbrushes without hesitation, saying they're clearly superior to manual ones. I wish I'd made the switch sooner. I went with the Oral-B iO Series 6. While I'm happy with it, I don't think the premium price of the latest models is justified, especially for a product that isn't BIFL. **Things to know before buying:** The toothbrush requires regular maintenance. The connection point where the brush head attaches accumulates grime in the small crevices, so you'll need to clean it frequently. I've also noticed dark stains (likely mold) developing on the rubber seal that I haven't been able to remove. Battery life degrades significantly over time. After two years, mine needs charging weekly instead of lasting several weeks. My wife's unit also developed charging issues after a single drop, sometimes it simply won't charge at all. The app is forgettable. I've never used it. I like it's not noisy. My brother has a cheaper one that is noisy as hell. **Bottom line:** Despite these drawbacks, I still think an electric toothbrush is a worthwhile investment. However, next time I'll research more thoroughly and consider spending extra for a model with better build quality and longevity.

r/BuyItForLifeI absolutely need to replace my current electric toothbrush, and I'd like to find one with the best value, especially with compatible, quality heads. Which one should I take?

I have the series 6. Did not need the features of the 9 and the 6 is pretty good. The new brushes are a real improvement and my teeth actually feel clean. Hope this helps

I doubt any will be good for life but the oral B line is great. I’ve been using the io5 or 6 for 4 years now. Just new heads every so often and clean it regularly.

I just bought the oral b io6 (sale at curry’s). I love it! I use the app to see how well I’m cleaning, pressure I’m applying etc. I already feel I’m doing a much better job cleaning them. I’ve had it a week and charged it up yesterday for the first time. I know the brush heads are more expensive but I’m not fussed too much about that. I like having the app and the toothbrush timer

Oral b iO6 is what I have. My dentist said that’s what she used (I think her version was a newer model, but iO6 is where my budget ended). The difference it makes in how clean your teeth feel is amazing. Night and day stuff from a manual brush. And it lights up red if you brush too hard which is super helpful to teach the correct amount of pressure… which is actually pretty light/ gentle. Definitely recommend it, I hate the pain of cavities and like having well kept teeth so it’s super worth it to me.
