We are a family of four that's used them for around the same length of time. When something fails, it's always the same thing: there's a little screw inside the cover that attaches the brush head holder to the vibratory mechanism, and it jiggles itself loose. You know it because it sounds different suddenly. Anyway, almost always reparable, but sometimes you really have to work to get the cover off to access it. We've owned the current set of four since 2022 (4x sonicare 9000, black, white, pink, and blue so we could tell them apart) and in the meantime I've had to make the repair twice. I obviously really love them though.

You’re thinking about this the right way, the brush matters, but home care really is \~50% of the battle (often *more*) because it’s what you do every single day between professional cleanings. Even the “best” electric brush won’t help if the basics aren’t consistent: * 2 minutes, 2×/day * light pressure (let the brush do the work) * focus on the gumline + between teeth (floss/interdental brushes) A Sonicare 9000 is a totally solid, “safe pick”, but the real win is that you’re choosing a routine you’ll stick with.

Not sure if you’re still deciding, but your lean toward Philips Sonicare 9000 makes sense. Sonicare brushes are consistent, gentle on gums, and don’t rely on pressure like Oral-B. Replacement heads are easier to find long-term too. I’ve noticed many budget brushes, including Alibaba-style ones, copy the look but not the vibration quality, which matters most for daily use.

The Sonicare prestige or even the 9000 model has a travel case that can charge

Got the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean 9000 (2-pack). It is amazing. Beats the oral-b and oclean that I used to have. [edit: noticed another post and verified. Beware, mine was also made in China]

Get the Sonicare 9000. Quite compact and you can charge it using the case (USB-C).

They are the same the changes are purely cosmetic and 7100 doesn’t have a Bluetooth. I find 9000 completely useless as I don’t use Bluetooth nor pairing it with my smartphone. I find it ridiculous that it needs to know your location for whatever reason and you need this to be activated to use the app. Which imo is a violation of privacy

My periodontist (gums) said the only "feature" thats really worth it is the pressure sensor. Get whatever level you need, to get that. I think all but the cheapest have that setting? Because of my dental history, I asked him what he uses at home, as someone in the field, and he said the diamondclean 9000 series, I don't remember exactly which one. I went home and bought it. My Perio also said - don't scrub with it. move slowly, tooth by tooth, letting the sonic vibrations do their job with very light pressure. You can really feel the difference when you do this. I don't use the bluetooth now, but I did use it long enough to train muscle memory on how long to use it in each section of my mouth. Also, I really like the 'gum health' setting - the vibration pattern is different. My teeth never cleaner than when I've used that setting. Source? I've had genetic dental problems all my life but this toothbrush is the best I've ever owned - noticeable difference tohow clean my teeth feel.
