I love my sonicare. I went for the diamondclean back in 2022 and its still working fine. I don't really use the smart features, if those are important for you then I would get it. I mainly wanted the nice glass cup charging thing. Lets you have a cup for rising and have it be your charging base instead of one of the tiny obnoxious ones that likes to get knocked over. The pressure sensor is amazing, both have that but what I found was super helpful and not something I thought would be is the timer for when to brush where. The previous sonicare series 2 I used had 4 brushing zones. The 6 on the diamond clean seems to help a ton with making sure I brush properly. Partitions brushing time into 6 smaller sections 3 for top and 3 for bottom. I gifted my sister one (Flexcare+ which is discontinued) as well back in 2017 and hers just died a few months back if you wanted an idea on lifespan
for EDS, the main things i'd focus on are a super soft bristle toothbrush (like the colgate extra soft or sensodyne pronamel soft), since a lot of us have gum sensitivity and fragile tissue that gets irritated easily. an electric toothbrush like an oral-B or sonicare on a sensitive setting can also be a game changer because you don't have to press as hard, which helps avoid bruising or micro-tears. for toothpaste, sensodyne is a pretty popular choice in this community because it's gentle and helps with sensitivity. biotene is another good one if you deal with dry mouth, which is pretty common with EDS and dysautonomia overlap. also worth mentioning since a lot of us deal with POTS or general dysautonomia alongside EDS, staying on top of electrolytes actually makes a real difference in how your whole body feels, including things like dry mouth and fatigue that can affect oral health. i've been using salties, which are just unflavored electrolyte drops, and they're easy to add to any drink without messing with your routine. but back to the actual dental stuff, definitely check with your dentist about fluoride treatments if you have enamel issues, and ask about a custom mouthguard if you're a jaw clencher since hypermobility can make TMJ stuff way worse.
Suri. Built to last, cheap, quiet, ergonomic, and with a 40+ day battery life. Outlasted my multiple SoniCares which kept breaking, and still going strong today.
Nimbus for manual. Oral B electric with the extra soft TB heads. After 13 years of clinical practice and personal experience I *do not* recommend Phillips Sonicare.
It just doesn’t get the teeth as clean. It leaves behind a grainy film which doesn’t seem to ever happen with the Oral B. I’ve seen it over and over on people throughout the years and personally experienced it.
I actually disagree with the other comment and prefer the oral B. I have both and I’ve been using the sonicaire for about a month now. They both are great but oral B feels more gentle. The sonicaire is pretty intense and since it’s larger I think there is slightly more potential to incorrectly clean the gums, causing damage.
Yeah it’s definitely a personal preference thing! I can understand why some people prefer the usual brush head of the sonicaire because it feels more familiar.
Yeah why does my oral B get moldy and my sonicaire doesn’t? Also an RDH. 😂
I prefer Oral B to my Sonicaire. Look up BASS brushing technique on YouTube but also there are videos how to specifically brush with an electric because you do not need to use a scrubbing motion.
I prefer the oral B iO. Oral B brush head is better in general when used properly imo especially in the back. The only thing I do prefer about the sonicaire is they don’t get that mold issue that oral B has not figured out yet. I just have to frequently remove and clean out the brush head area on the oral B.
I use and love the Aquasonic Vibe. I paid about $35 for it. It comes with 8 replacement heads, a travel case, 4 cleaning modes, and warranty. It also times your brushing in 30 second increments for each part of your mouth. The replacement heads are $30 for 8 but I won't need to buy more for a long time (the company says it is 2 years worth that comes with the toothbrush initially) so i thought that was do able. I finally bought mine after my best friend bought his last year and recommended. I wish I would've have gotten one sooner. I personally like it better than my Phillips Sonicare and I used that thing for the last 15 years.
I recommend spending more on the toothbrush. A popular model is the Phillips Sonicare ($60), which has third-party heads available on Amazon for cheap ($15/10 heads). I have one and it’s lasted over five years so far. One charge lasts about two weeks. I used to use the Arm & Hammer Spinbrush ($12), but the heads were expensive ($6). As for water flossers, I got a Chinese brand off of Amazon ($25) and it’s also lasted over five years so far. Tips: Cordless ones have a reservoir, so all of the water it needs is in it, which can make the device bulky to hold. It’s messy, I use it in the shower. One charge lasts about two weeks. I add an ounce of oral rinse to the reservoir and fill the rest with water. While I was at it, I got a tooth polisher ($28) off Amazon, too. The buttons popped off after little use, but they went back on with a dab or rubber cement. I use it once a week. I use it once a week, with some baking soda. I’ll edit with the brands later!
Phillips sonicare! there’s plenty of compostable and recycled replacement heads available. And the toothbrush itself lasts a long time.
