Philips Sonicare - ProtectiveClean 4100 (HX6817/01, HX6815/01, etc.)

The Philips Soniccare 4100 is great -- and simple. I had a diamond clean before this, but a screw got loose and it wasn't brushing anymore. The heads are the same and there are plenty of great third party ones at a fraction of the cost.

Depends on the brand. Sonicare brushes vibrate at a very high rate and do an exceptional job cleaning teeth. Mine always feel borderline professionally cleaned afterwards. 

This is the one I use and would recommend. It has the only features you really need: high vibration speed, a timer so you know you've brushed enough, and a pressure sensor.  My last Sonicare lasted for over five years before I replaced it. They're pretty durable and do a good job. You can buy off brand replacement heads, too, if you want. I spend the extra on the name brand ones since they do such a good job, though. 

Similar to my own experience. I had some deep pockets that actually improved since getting the Sonicare. They're not perfect, mind you, but they're better. 

Former Colgate hum user here. I switched to Philips sonicare and been happy with it. My biggest concern was the size of the brush head but the standard C2 head is working well for me. But I don't have noise sensitivity, so not sure if you'd find sonicare loud or not. I use it in sensitive mode. The regular mode is too strong for me. 4100 model is currently $39.99 on Amazon. Ymmv.

Philips replacement recommendation is every 3 months. Genuine brush heads have a chip inside and it monitors how many time it's been used. The body beeps when it needs to be replaced. If you are talking about the body itself, maybe rechargeable part is the problem rather than "break"? Mine is a little over 2 years old and going strong, but anything rechargeable is NOT BIFL, the battery eventually lose charge. BTW I am team Sonicare 4100, you really don't need bells and whistles on a toothbrush.

Go with 4100 like everyone says. I've had a BT model before, but honestly, I didn't want to pull up my phone and open an app when I brush my teeth. You really don't need fancy gimmicks. Buy a basic model.

Wife and I share an electric handle with our own heads. No way I'm giving up on that extra level of dental hygiene. The sonicaire 4100 is 156g for the handle 2 heads and the USB charger. Is anyone aware of a Phillips Sonicaire USB charger that just includes the induction base with a female USB port and no USB cable? Sonicare 4100 or Oral b io 3. They're both great budget electric toothbrushes that have all the basic features you need. Ai features on toothbrushes are mostly gimmicky. Use rest money to get extra toothbrush heads, water flosser or good dental floss.

I’d go with either a sonicare or oral-b. I tried another brand - quip a few years and the brushing was not the same, despite it being electronic. Get something that has a 2 minute timer. An indicator that tells you when to change your brush head, as well as a beep that lets you know when to change quadrants when brushing is also handy, but the basic Phillips 4100 will do that. Edit: wanted to add that the basics 4100 will do that but my last one died after 2-3 years. Looking it up, this happens to that model, unsure if the higher models are better with this

sonicare 4100 gang. it's their basic model but does everything you need. been using it for 2 years and my teeth have never felt cleaner

I have the Phillips sonicare 4100, recently on a trip I brought a manual toothbrush and the difference in clean was insane. I hadn't realised just how brilliant the sonicare is. It's cheap, light to hold and holds charge for a long time.

Yeah you can, I've just been researching from the tips in this thread and opted for the sonicare 4100 as it has a soft brush option and also gum protection (it alerts you when you are brushing too hard). Hopefully it'll do the job!

I just bought the Phillips Sonicare 4100 based on the recs from this thread for sonicare. I went for the 4100 as it has a warning for too high pressure to stop the gum damage. I'm looking to reduce that feeling of plaque but good shout for those that brush too firmly

An unfortunate and costly lesson to learn. No more multitasking for you sir. I just bought the sonicare based on everyone's feedback. No clothes shall be worn in the process!

Buy the cheapest Sonicare that has a timer (I think that's the 4100). That's all you need. It doesn't have to last you a lifetime, it just has to be priced right. If you're lucky and take proper care of it, it could even last you many years.

These are devices you use 2 or 3 times a day, are exposed to water and chemicals and have li-ion batteries with a finite lifespan in them. Do not pay more than $100 for one because this is not a BIFL purchase. I bought the 4100 and it's perfect.

They are exposed to water and chemicals, they have li-ion batteries inside, they vibrate the hell of their guts. The fact that they last as long as they do is nothing short of a miracle.
