Decent DE1 XXL Does EVERYTHING. Can be used for small caterings, energy efficient, heats up fast, not too heavy
This is a good summary of why I got a DE1 XXL. It really fits everything I want to be able to do with a machine and the control I need to feel like I’ll never get tired or outgrow it.
Personally, if I had that money to spend I wouldn't be considering anything other than a Decent espresso Bengle. I recently got a DE1 myself, so maybe I'm a little biased, but the Bengle improves on basically all of the DE1's shortcomings. The new pump design is insanely quiet and has a 50%+ increase in flow and smoother delivery, it looks prettier, has integrated scales, has a temp probe for milk steaming, and a cup warmer. The heat up time is blisteringly fast (under 3 mins for the Bengle), Decent's steam is insanely dry since they're working with a custom thermocoil at 160C, and you've got full temperature, pressure, and flow profiling capabilities with presets to emulate any number of other machines, hot water is dispensed at whatever temperature you want on the fly and can be dosed by weight for consistency. It's probably the most technically capable machine in existence, about the only thing it can't replicate is the physical tactility of actually operating a spring lever, E61 etc. Their rep for customer support is excellent, and the warranty is infinitely extendable, even if it has expired. I guess you could say that the other machines stand more chance of being serviced when Decent may not exist as a company, but I don't see any indication that they're about to fold any time soon, and ultimately are you shopping for an espresso machine or a family heirloom?
Yeah, I believe it's been delayed to early summer so that they can properly integrate their new in house designed pumps. For me, steam power on the DE1 is absolutely fine, no delay, dry as hell, and strikes a nice balance between speed and forgivingness. I can't compare it to a linea or synchronika from experience but I'm sure it lags behind those machines in terms of raw power. That said, the DE1XXL is more powerful and intended for light commercial use, according to decent's spec it'll steam 200ml in about 24 seconds, which is pretty epic especially considering how small the machine is, still not as fast as the linea mini can be, but I'm not sure anyone needs 10 second steaming for home use. No official spec for the Bengle yet, but I believe the 220V version is going to be at least matching the DE1XXL (which is 220V only) in terms of steam power and heat up.
Not sure why the downvotes. Sure, it's pretty nuts for a first setup, but if you've got the money... We all get an idea of how we are when it comes to gear related hobbies, if you're the kind of person who's likely going end up getting the itch to move to high end gear before too long, might as well just grab the bull by the horns if you can afford to. Buy once, cry once. LM has never really appealed to me that much, I run a robot at the moment and would miss the profiling capabilities. I think Decent DE1 is my next move, it's not cheap, but it's the ideal mix of features and footprint for me. Currently just hesitating in the hope that Decent launch that refurb machine program that they talked about in the Bengle showcase video.
I had a look into it a while back, and it seems like Decent have made it as straightforward and painless as possible to get the machines back to them for service and repair. Imo this is a pretty huge deal considering it's a machine with a lot of unique or unusual stuff going on inside, where your local technician who knows their way around an E61 might be a bit out of their depth.
Fellow new DE1 owner here, although I went for the 20% discounted V1.46 mashup. I do love the all black look of the new models, but the stainless front is fine given the discount. I went that route because it seemed like all the machine I would ever need, and it ticks so many boxes. Fast heat up, dry steam, full profiling capabilities, small footprint, water tank that's easy to access when tucked under kitchen units (non plastic too, which is nice), infinitely extendable warranty, brew by weight, hot water dispensed at any temp I want. And all that, delivered to the UK with no additional fees, for £29 more than a profitec pro 700. It's a lot of money, but I'd argue that of all the £2K+ prosumer machines, it's arguably the most "sensible" choice in many ways.
Oh I don't know, there's still plenty of legitimate reasons to use the DE1 even if you're defaulting to just a couple of profiles. The tiny footprint, easily accessible water tank when it's tucked under kitchen cabinets, the fast heat up time, the insanely dry steam immediately available, the fact that it's able to automatically save shots on adaptive profiles, brew by weight (if you have a compatible scale), hot water at any temperature you want (also dispensed by weight). I'm not trying to sell you on it, just pointing out a bunch of the core features that I appreciate outside of the profiling capabilities. It's not the sexiest machine, or the nicest sounding, and definitely not the most tactile, but it's got a lot going for it aside from that.

I don't know about "go to", but I do feel like the DE1 is one of the more sensible big spender machines. The level of flexibility and capability is basically unmatched to date, plus the fast heat up time makes a lot of sense for a home environment. It's definitely all the machine I'll ever need, and since I got one of the V1.46 mashup machines at a discount, it's crazy that I've managed to get such a zero compromise setup for the price of a profitec pro 700.
DE1 is a single custom thermocoil, so you can't steam and pull at the same time, however you can immediately go from brewing, to steaming, and back again with zero delay. They do this in a really clever way, since the thermocoil heats to 160°C meaning it's always ready for steaming (and it's very dry steam too, no real need to purge before steaming), the brew temp is achieved by blending the superheated water from the coil with cool water straight from the tank.
Dual boiler or bambino. I had a BBE and it was great... after i got a better grinder. The dual boiler is mod-able where you can add flow control which is kinda cool. Looking back, had i known what i know now, id probably have gotten BDB, but the bambino is pretty good too (from what most everyone who gets one says). Just got me a pink Decent last month, so I'm out of the I-need-a-new-espresso-machine phase. But now I'm looking at top-tier grinders to finish my machine set up. Then it'll just be cool accessories and the upgrades that Decent puts out. But my Breville gave me 10 years and its still works great
Went from BBE 870 to DE1 in October (15% off for a breast cancer awareness thing) i love it. I turn it on and its ready in a couple mins max. In the morning the little countdown starts at 120 seconds (but usually jumps down faster) and during the day/evening its around 40-80 seconds. Still playing with all the profiles. I have 2 different bean subscriptions timed out so i get basically a bag a week 2 at a time, the beans change so i mess w the profiles, but once i find a good profile I'll use it repeatedly.... just sharing that info bc if you stick to a certain bean/roast, you don't have to mess with much once you find what you like... but you CAN. I'm currently messing with temperature.
Sold mine recently when I moved abroad, planning to rebuy the 220v XL or upgrade to the Bengle
I paid 0 tariffs on it. It shipped and was in my hands in 2 days.
Just get a Decent DE1. I got one after faffing about using an E61 with flow control, there is no substitute if you want to control every aspect of the shot.
I got mine as a cosmetic defect unit in the end of Sept this year (barely noticeable nick at the back of the machine) otherwise perfect.
Ill informed. EDIT: What I paid doesn't change the fact that you are clueless. Clueless people are easily triggered when their ignorance is pointed out!
I just got mine a month ago my only regret is I didn’t get it sooner. The 20% off the cosmetic defect models was more lucrative for me than the v1.46 group head change. The new group head will be available to install on the older machines so it’s not something that held me back. After using a E61 dual boiler machine, I have no interest in any boiler based machine now that I have used the Decent. The Meticulous is interesting but it is too new. Also it will take up more space on the counter, at 17 inches tall it will barely fit under most counters, as wide as decent but will need a separate milk steaming device. For me it’s a no go. The Decent is so much more versatile than any other machine on the market. I have been using it regularly to brew filter coffee using the Filter 3.0 basket. With all the profiles I can usually get amazing extractions from any beans. All the data it provides teaches a lot more about espresso and your technique. I used a Bluetooth pressure gauge and flow control on the E61 but the decent is in a different league.
