We had a Phillips machine for a few years and recently upgraded to a Delonghi Eletta Evo. It's genuinely night and day. The Phillips took 100 cups to taste decent (not an exaggeration, literally 100+), whereas the Delonghi was infinitely better tasting right out of the box. Even with the Phillips machine we were buying coffee at cafes and Starbucks because we were just unhappy with the machine, so it was absolutely worthwhile. The Eletta explore you're interested in is the newer version of our machine - touch screen, cold drink options and a few other nice features that we don't have. We got ours on a huge discount because the explore came out, so it was worth giving up those features for the price we paid. Honestly, just get the one you want and don't look back. I'm a big fan of my Delonghi, but I can't speak to the jura. Just don't cheap out. Buy once cry once, but at least you can drown your tears in a delicious iced latte.

Interesting, I don't know! The instructions in the Philips specifically say it takes 100-150 cups before you should adjust the grinder, and we definitely noticed very watery tasting coffee for the first 2-3 weeks of use. It did get a lot better, but definitely nowhere near the taste of the Eletta. We tried different temperature settings, grind settings, beans, combinations of water/strength but could never get anything as tasty as the Eletta produced out of the box. Never know, maybe we got a bad Philips, or your work got a bad Eletta.

I had a Delonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top. It only lasted 24 months and 6 days. That’s pretty poor, when the old manual I had lasted 10 years. I’ve gone back to a manual espresso and it outperforms the automatics with consistent hot coffee and great micro-foamed milk, though I need to work on my latte art

r/superautomatic$2k budget – leaning toward De’Longhi Eletta Explore. Good choice?

I’ve had the De’Linghi Eletta Cappuccino since 2019. Love the grind and brew and milk feature. You mentioned temps - the lattes or macchiatos I make are quite hot for me.

I'm a fan of the Delonghi Elatta (I think that's what it's called) as it does iced as well as hot coffee which is great in summer. It's an automatic style one though. Campos beans or Toby's Estate is my pick!

That is what I did. A positive surprise is that a super automatic is much less hassle to clean up. I have a Delonghi Eletta.

r/superautomaticBest machine for milk based drinks? (Currently considering Jura E8 or Miele 6160)

We love our Eletta as well, and it does about as good a job frothing as you'll get from a superauto. BUT, it should be mentioned that the milk doesn't come out very hot. Doesn't bother me really, but if I had to make one complaint about the machine, this would be it. The wife often throws here milk drinks in the microwave for a few seconds even.

Automatic milk frother. Dial from hot milk to heavy foam, works perfectly every time. I own several manual and semiautomatic espresso machines and vote 2x on the Delonghi magnifica evo. He'll love a superautomatic espresso machine, and the Delonghi is the best on the market. On my Delonghi Eletta (about 2x your price point, but same brew group as the less expensive De'Longhi machines), to clean the milk unit, I just pull the milk frother from the machine, pop off the top, wash out the container, pull off three knobs/ spouts and flush under the faucet. ~20 seconds max. If I leave milk in the unit, I turn the dial to flush, it runs hot, clean water through the nozzle to clean it out. ~10 seconds. Then I put the unit with milk in it, in the fridge. De'Longhi makes great espresso, lots of crema, foam is silky smooth and really creamy. Their machines are easy to use, easy to clean. He should be delighted if he likes espresso.

Get a super automatic and be done with it. I love my refurbished Delonghi Eletta. I buy specialty beans online so my coffee tastes great. Counter Culture, Klatch, Superlost and Color all have great beans.

This is so surprising to me because I'm the exact opposite. I have Phillips at home and it was perfect right out of the box and still is nearly two years later. On the other hand I have the Eletta at work ( for context we're a small office with 8 people and only 2 of us use the Eletta. ) and I feel the Eletta was bad out of the box and has only gotten worse. We use the same beans and everything. Very strange
