Just picked up a De’Longhi Rivelia from Curry’s for £599. It’s excellent so far.
I have a Delonghi Rivelia and love it. I mainly use it for cappuccino mix that I programmed to fit my 16 oz cup. I came from a Kitchenaid semiautomatic machine.
DeLonghi Magnifica Plus is the way to go for budget <$1,000 USD. If you can squeeze a little more consider the newer DeLonghi Riviela holds several advantages like switching between beans, better milk system and broader range of drinks if that is important for your decision making. Good luck.
Ya I’m in the same situation and would like 2 hoppers. I have the Delonghi Dinamica Plus and it makes great drinks but I mostly drink decaf and my wife drinks regular. I’m tired of using the bypass chute for every drink and I don’t think it uses as many grounds so drinks from the chute are weaker. I’m getting tired of fiddling with it and spending the extra time measuring out scoops of coffee for a quick drink before heading out to work so I’ve looked at the Rivelia and the J8 Twin. Ideally I’d love to get the J8 twin because you can do regular or decaf or even half caff with the touch of a button but I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger since it is so expensive. Just can’t justify spending 3x what I have or the Rivelia. Rivelia seems like the best affordable option but you still have to switch hoppers and have remaining grounds unless you dump and waste the beans.
I just upgraded from Philips 3200 with wand frother, which was about 4 years old, to Delonghi Rivelia. So much better. The drip tray and water tank are smaller but imo is better for me as I clean up and refill every night instead of letting the water and grounds sit longer. The milk carafe has a clean cycle after each drink. It can be skipped but it only takes about 10-15 seconds. The carafe can be disassembled and put in the dishwasher. I haven't cleaned the brew group yet. Comparing it with the Philips, it's simpler with less nooks and crannies. Oh and the coffee it produces. Miles ahead of the budget Philips. I'm in Socal. Got the Rivelia for $1200 at my local Best Buy because it was in stock and I wanted it right away. ETA I use kirkland oat milk. Steams and froths wonderfully.
I recently got the Delonghi Rivelia and am very pleased with it. Plenty of reviews online, you can draw your own conclusion. Happy shopping.
Delonghi Magnifica Plus. Highest dosing machine, and can be dialed in to meet SCA extraction metrics. Other machines either dose too low and/or fall a bit short on the extraction. The DeLonghi Rivelia and Eletta Explorer are also solid options. https://tomscoffeecorner.com/delonghi-magnifica-plus-review-best-superautomatic/
Overall, I would recommend a De'Longhi machine. Eletta explorer if you want cold brew, Magnifica Plus if not, Rivelia if you need interchangeable hoppers, and EVO Next if you are on a budget. KitchenAid is good too. Phillips, Seaco and Gaggia are good machines but dose lower and produce less intense espresso. Jura is way overpriced and no better than KitchenAid and step down from De'Longhi in espresso quality. Build I would say they are all about the same. KitchenAid machines do seem to feel sturdier on the outside with more metal than other manufactures. De'Longhi gives the longest warranty at 3 years on registered machines.
It only flash heats what it needs as it travels through the frother. The containers don't keep the milk cold. You return them to the refrigerator as soon as you're done making your coffee and running the rinse cycle. They can stay in the refrigerator with milk for several days usually up to a week at the very longest. Fill and use as needed but thorough cleaning is needed at the very least weekly. Of course the manufacturers will tell you to clean it much sooner as they assume worst use case scenarios.
My favorites was latte and cappuccino until I got my Delonghi Rivelia 1month ago and after trying different drinks the first day or two ive only made flat whites since lol(except from espresso). They are delicious and I drink 2-3 per day now haha. Edit: And you can get another milk carafe pretty cheap and use one for cow milk and another for nut milk!
I bought one and had it for 2 weeks before I got my money back and bought a Delonghi Rivelia instead and it is so much better than the Philips in every way, and especially noise levels and espresso taste!
I first bought a Philips 3300 and had it for two weeks. The coffee was ok(with good beans)but it was super noisy and hard to clean. So when i saw the Rivelia on sale I immediately sent the Philips back and got a DeLonghi Rivelia and it’s better in every way. The quality, the coffee, cleaning etc. I love it and have already gone through like 1.5kg of beans lol. It’s so silent compared to the Philips and makes good coffee even with cheap not so good coffee beans(same beans that tasted horrible on the Philips).
