You could still consider getting her a manual machine. I am partial to the Leverpresso Pro. I recommend it because it is a machine that grows with the barista's skill level. It sits nicely at the lower end of your budget, leaving room for good grinder and with practice, your partner will be pulling shots far more capable than semi-automatic machines well outside of your budget. For reference, here is my baby, fully kitted out: https://preview.redd.it/679jxj1iwytf1.jpeg?width=863&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98a617ec8963201e34bd7286c43dfcbb43ef2b59

Late to the party but I'll chime in with my go-to, the Hugh Leverpresso Pro. Still my tried-and-tested device after years of heavy international travel. My only gripe is the pre-heating.
Don't know what your currency is, and starting with just a machine, and not pricing grinders etc into the amount If Australian dollar, just get a piccopresso and a couple of baskets. Also consider Hugh leverpresso or flair neoflex They will make a very good coffee, and you will learn a shit ton more than buying something where you are pretty well limited to pressing a button. If USD, get the barista model robot.
