Based on 1 year's data from Mar 20, 2026 How it works
My wife uses a Jura Z6 super and every so often I've made a double espresso on it. Same beans as I was using on my machine. No comparison. Sure it's fast, but that's it. I wouldn't call it espresso, just slightly stronger coffee. If you're making milk based drinks it's ok and really easy. I sold my espresso machine when we bought the Jura thinking that it would make me happy. After about a month I realized that it was nowhere near the same quality. So as a backup I'm ok having it but I'd rather use my moka pot than the Jura for anything more than a day.
It can do espresso shots from 5 to 16 grams. But 16 grams in the Jura doesn't compare with an 18 gram double on an espresso machine. And sure, the espresso from the Jura is ok. It has some crema and tastes ok. But it's weak and has no mouthfeel. I'd compare it to a smaller Americano. Bottom line is if you're used to preparing espresso properly a super won't satisfy for long. Quality, texture and mouthfeel are sacrificed for speed and convenience.
I got my Jura z6 back in 2020 when Covid hit and everyone thought we’d never leave our houses again. I had just stated my new job for really great pay so I figured why not. Researched and landed on that one. It’s running strong and is a great investment. I love it. I may upgrade one day, but it’s been perfect since I bought it.
The Jura line has the as much or more control over milk and foam than other brands including independent temp of both milk and foam (Giga and Z line). The E8 is their economy line, but above their compact models... makes great coffee. The S is the middle line (kind of) It does not do cold drinks, but does sweet foam infusion. The J Line does a few more drinks but not much different than the S and I believe all but the twin grinder J8 are scheduled for end of life. The Z and Giga give complete electronic control over everything. Grinder adjustments on the fly, brew temp, milk temp and volume, foam temp and volume, sweet, fam, cold drinks, double shots with one button. all can be controlled by your phone. I have a Z10 and love it. the lines listed above will last a decade or more if you maintain them properly. The build quality is some of the premium price you pay for a Jura. Many people have had their machine for 15+ years. My Z6 went 16+ with two rebuilds (servicing at the American center). If this is your first SuperAuto you might want to go mid range. I started with an E8 and the following year bought a Z6. Or jump in to the high end with every option you can image.
Most of your "review" is based on personal preference. Looks are subjective, but you still chose to buy it. Why, if you did not like the way it looks at all? Many of your nits are clearly visible on the Jura sit and or almost any review of the machine online. Not knowing a return policy is completely on you. Any electronic device has a limited window for returns. It is clear you have not read the owner's manual as many of the issues, settings you are referring to are clearly addressed in the manual. Adding names is simple. Adjusting and setting volume, strength etc are simple. I do not have a iphone, but the app works perfectly on my android. The build quality of the internals has not changed. I agree the shell is cheaper than it should be. My Z6 had real metal, real chrome, etc. etc. The newer machines are cheaper looking. Have you adjusted the temps for coffee, milk and foam? They need to be adjusted for each drink. Grind and dose need to be adjusted for each drink as well. You can change the number of drinks per page, the number of pages, the brightness etc. Not sure how you do not know what drink you are pressing. Superautos do NOT make the best espresso; they never have and never will. A good portafilter machine will make a better cup and a wand will make better steamed milk / foam. Superautos are about speed, ease of use and ease of cleanup. All of this is addressed on this sub, and many reviews online including James Hoffman, whom you said you follow / watch. You say you follow this sub, but again you are concerned with issues that have been addressed over and over. There are many posts, including my own, about exact temps when brewing and making milk. If you are not getting at least pretty good coffee your setting are off or there is something wrong with your machine. You could do a warranty repair (for free) through Jura USA. Call the customer service number. If they cannot walk you through a fix you can request service. No the LEDs cannot be changed from factory settings. If you are unimpressed with this machine; many of the cheaper machines will really disappoint you. Some of this information may come across as harsh, but it is not meant to. edit: grammer
16 years on my Z6 before before buying my Z10. 17 on my E8 and still works.
I’ve put a Bezzera Magica (no plumbing) and an Eureka Mignon Specialità in the office kitchen, next to a Jura super automatic. 80% of the staff prefers the Jura, while the rest makes for maybe 20 coffee drinks a day on the Bezzera. It works beautifully, I’d say.
ONLY a JURA for mama!
Completely different set up. The Jura is a super automatic: press one button and it’s makes you a tasty coffee (that the vast majority of people will be very happy with, myself included). The breville is a semi automatic that happens to have a built in grinder. You grind into a portafilter, level, tamp, insert the portafilter and then brew your coffee. Also probably very tasty for most people but with added variables. Both types require maintenance. VERY important maintenance. I had a super automatic (Saeco) for about 15 years until the control unit died and it was discontinued. Very tasty coffee. But I wanted less maintenance (almost none) and don’t ever drink milk based drinks so I was paying for features that I’d never use. So I got a level machine (flair 58), a nice grinder for less than (niche zero) and a nice kettle (fellow ekg pro) for less than what it would’ve cost to replace my super automatic. I control the grind size, the water temperature and the pressure to make my espresso. Morning coffees are now “more work” but I personally enjoy the ritual while recognizing it isn’t for everyone.
Do it! We got a jura super automatic from Seattle coffee gear 15 years ago. It's still kicking out great shots daily.
Just get a Jura. It’s the best full auto machine for the office. I’ve been at the offices of the largest orgs in the world for 25 years and even Jura is like top 5%. No one has semi-autos for public use.
Imo it's Jura or nothing.
My family has espresso machines. My dad is obsessed in the past two decade they have tried at least 6 or 7 different machines upgrading each time. Honestly the Jura fully automatic machines that grind, fill, dispense and eject grounds are the only way to go. Everything else is to much work. Are these machines expensive? Yes. But they make incredible drinks with the least work. You still have to clean the milk system, descale, and empty the water and ground catchers but compared is the rest it is worth it. If I had 3 thousand dollars I would have one of those. But my vertuo will suffice til then
Jura bean to cup owner for 25 years. On my second machine. Original now in my holiday spot. Anyway. Beans go in and really good coffee comes out.
