I agree with your statement that they all look the same. I have an Outin Nano with the Basket Plus (so I can do 18g) and love it. I also have the Outin Mino, but there’s no option for 18g basket on it. I would honestly base it on warranty and ease of getting one. I can only speak for Outin since that’s what I use, but their warranty is top notch. Anyone I have heard have any issues has always been taken care of by Outin. I personally think all of them are going to heat the same number of brews. There’s only so much space inside for batteries. And since they all are the same size, likely same batteries.
I've been using an Outin Nano over the past 6-12 months due to extensive and extended travel. Notes: - Pretty consistent flat 9 bar. - No exhaust/3-way solenoid. Therefore, you can do some saturation+bloom, which is handy for lighter roasts. - Stock basket/pod carrier is worthless. Get the Nano Basket Plus. Then you can do proper ~18g shots in a nice deep ~46mm (?) basket (depending on coffee of course). - Yes, it has a heater. It eats the battery. Maybe you can heat from cold a couple-three times. - Workflow is lamentable. Even with the Nano Basket Plus, the included WDT tool and funnel are useless. I use a [gargantuan spice funnel](https://www.amazon.com/Canning-Kitchen-Funnels-Filling-Stainless/dp/B09PMRHBZS/145-0269335-0556350) and a [proper WDT too](https://subminimal.com/products/flick)l to speed things up. - Knocking out the puck is a pain. The trick is to fellate the basket. Meaning, pucker up and press your lips against the bottom of the basket and blow. Puck will come right out. If the basket is hot, obviously cool it down with water or time or use a towel. All that said: I've been able to make some surprisingly good shots. You can even pull light roasts, but an external kettle and boiling hot water (and a couple of blank pre-heating shots) are required. I personally don't think the device can sufficiently heat water on its own, Outin's claims to the contrary. Other notes: * The Nano Plus basket is not pressurized; it does, however, funnel the coffee from the bottom of the basket into a single large diameter hole that seems to provide some extra aeration of the coffee. While I think the Nano generates sufficient pressure to render proper crema, the basket 'cheats' a little and adds extra body to the shot. It's effective and kinda delightful, and I miss it in other machines. * There is no OPV. I do not know what pressure the puck experiences for traditional espresso flow rates, but based on dose/grind/flow/puck geometry, I don't have much reason to doubt the claimed pump pressure. HOWEVER, the lack of an OPV poses some risks: * If you choke the machine, you run the risk of blowing an internal seal and flooding the electronics/battery chamber with water. This ruins the device. * I have managed to destroy two devices this way. * Outin service has been very responsive and replaced both very rapidly. Just make sure you have pictures of the serial numbers/bar codes from the box and Nano handy. * It is clear Outin is aware of this issue; later models of the Nano have much more robust failsafe mechanisms programmed into its pump controller: excessively high pressure will cut the motor, and you cannot resume the shot until pressure has abated. But even with this safety in place, it is still possible to wreck a seal. Go on, ask me how I know :P * The 70ml water chamber is not a limitation; nothing prevents you from filling the chamber continuously as the shot pulls. The pump duty cycle is only 60 seconds (like many espresso machines even costing 40x), but you can simply resume the shot and keep pumping. Hope that helps
I have both the Outin Nano espresso and Outin Fino grinder. Fantastic combination for camping, we used it for 7 straight days on our last camping road trip
I have a Breville Oracle Jet, one of the finest semi auto’s you can buy. Its guidance and options have allowed me to really get some tremendously delicious shots since its purchase. Then I bought an Outin Nano for work, and it’s wonderful. Both have their place, but there is something nice about just placing a pod of high quality coffee and getting a consistent shot. I’m glad I have the Jet, and the local roaster makes a damn fine blend that I enjoy often. I also really enjoy the ease of making an espresso when traveling or at work with consistency. So, enjoy the journey if you decide to travel down that path.
That I personally like? Portable is the Outin, home is the Oracle Jet.
Sorry, I have the nanopresso and the GR2. I was about to recommend the GR2 over the nano but since you are looking at the pico I don't have any experience with it. Check out the outin Nano as well, with the basket upgrade it's fun to use it.
I bought an H4B portable espresso maker for my girlfriend. Honestly it feels like cheap garbage. I am very disappointed so far. I also have an Outin Nano. It is on an entirely different level and price difference was not that much. I don't think I will ever buy anything from Hibrew.
Outin Nano works. Out of the box, it actually comes with a pod converter and pressurised basket that only does 5-7g. You can get the Plus baskets which are unpressurised 16-18g and they actually can make decent espresso on the go. I’ve tried it with dark espresso beans with robusta and light-medium specialty Columbia and PNG. I’ll say it’s not the machine being unable to make a decent cup for you, it’s your grinder. As long as you can dial in your grind, the Outin would produce sufficiently decent espresso. Outin’s just released an even newer, more compact model with more powerful pump and larger battery called the Outin Mino. But I actually recommend the Outin Nano x Kruve gift set. It actually comes with Kruve glassware and a special colourway with 3 Plus baskets. No pressurised and no pod baskets in this set. Sale’s just $199 last I checked. Incredible value.
I have been using Outin Nano for almost 2 years with Nespresso capsules. It does the job but the quality is not even close to a basic Pixie (which, of course, is not even real espresso). I find the water pressure and flow with capsules uneven and the water temperature scorching hot (close to 100 degrees). None of that fake Nespresso crema and burnt taste regardless of the capsule brand.
If you want a nespresso pod machine. Why not get a Coffeeza Finero Mini? Costs around 4k. Pods compatible. If you can stretch, then get an outin nano as it comes with an 18g basket that you can use to brew freshly ground coffee.
Yes grind finer. I have the outin nano and it struggled when I grounded too fine, 15 on encore esp. Now I'm dialing at 19 on encore esp grinder. It does brew shots without struggling. I like the 51mm so thinking to get the ikafe or hibrew
