I have the very similar Gaggia Magenta; same brew group and grinder, I believe. Cappuccinos and flat whites are tasty, not as intense as my semiautomatic but as good as or better than typical restaurant cappuccino. My milk frother is different from the Philips, but it has a flush cycle that keeps the milk path clean. I disassemble it to clean fully maybe once per month, and it doesn't seem necessary but I do it just in case. Very convenient and easy for good 1-touch milk drinks.
I'm loving my Gaggia Magenta Prestige, after 7 years with their Anima Prestige. Flat whites are also my go-to.
I dunno which machines have hot cocoa; just use the hot water with a mix. It doesn't get much love here, but I really like my gaggia magenta prestige. Color screen, scrolling image menu, easy to adjust/save parameters for each drink. Frothed milk is good, consistent. Maintenance is easy, you just need to hit a couple of buttons after milk drinks to flush the milk passage. Empty the drip tray and pick bin. Keep it filled with water and beans. That's most of the maintenance. Drinks include espresso (not bad, not as rich as a semiauto shot), Americano, cappuccino, latte, flat white, cafe au lait (really good), and a few more. plus hot water and plain milk foam.
Basic superautos under $1k make fine milk drinks. I'd also check out the Gaggia Magenta Prestige, which works great for them. (For perspective, I also have a De'Longhi semiautomatic and a Flair manual machine.)
You want value in milk drinks - we are loving our gaggia magenta prestige. Check out its milk system. It order the milk and coffee correctly per drink type. It also spits out different kinds of foam. Works for us and we use it heavily.
Gaggia SA are pretty amazing. I have the Magenta Prestige and happy with the simplicity and very tasty milk drinks. I’ve also heard good things about their Academia. Probably worth a look as these machines are well in your budget
I am autistic and research tf out of stuff. I wanted a jura but didn’t think I could even convince my husband to let me get a Nescafé. I had a pre-loved basic Kurieg and I wanted a super-auto with all the things you are looking for. I researched this deeply as my special interest is research and for 6 months I mulled on machines and tracked my Starbucks purchases and i spent more there then I did on my Machine. Got the moonlight grey Gaggia magenta prestige, It does cold, it does lattes, it does cortado, it does everything. Buy the flavoring or make it per Starbucks own recipes and get your beans, it’s 100% worth it. I have had it 2 weeks and it’s seriously the best decision I ever made. If you don’t care about the over Ice you can do the magenta prestige. Got mine on sale at whole latte love, and it came with beans, setup is easy, and care has not been too bad. I am in love. My bestie also tried it and she is too. Bonus my kids love the frothed milk and water feature, I love fresh ground beans and the morning brown sugar oat milk cortado that is at the touch of a button and tastes better than Starbucks. 100% worth it. If you can afford the jura I would do that though I have heard amazing things.
People downvoting are wild. Everyone has different wants in a coffee maker. I had similar wants to you - i wanted fancy espresso drinks at the press of a button so I could enjoy without having to spend any time at it while im running around making my kids breakfast and making sure theyre ready for school. I got a Gaggia Magenta Prestiege and it works great for this. The milk carafe is tough to keep clean if you arent using it often, so thats something to keep in mind. It has a cleaning cycle after each brew, but milk will go off if you leave it in the carafe, especially through the soft plastic channels (we leave it in the fridge). In any case, we spent like $1300 on this one and it has definitely prevented me from buying FAR more than that by getting coffee out, so it has worked great for us!
I've owned a Neville barista Express for approx 5 years and I love it. A couple years ago I got a bit tired of all the work it takes to make a cortado. I have three a day my wife has one. I bought a gaggia magenta super automatic because it actually has a real steam wand. I could not pour as good a shot of espresso with it. I returned it at a loss and have been using the breville barista Express ever since .... But I am getting that itch to try the super automatic world again lol
I bought Gaggia magenta for $630 on Amazon. No frills. Just espresso, coffee, lungo, americano, and a steam wand. I take the parts out and rinse. Couldn't be easier. Would recommend.
If you’d like to peruse options of a somewhat economical machine with is fairly minimal waste in terms of beans while learning the machine I would suggest looking on Whole Latte Love’s website. I purchased a remanufactured Gaggia Magenta off of there. Compared to most machines in this group it is fairly inexpensive and similar to a drip machine in interface. Push a couple of buttons and boom delicious standard espressos. My morning routine is 4 shots out of there with hot water to dilute to a strong version of coffee. So I get the best of both worlds. No tamping baskets, measuring grounds, buying a good bean grinder. Just a consistent good espresso. I buy three pound bags of Lavazza and am content with this set up. No hassles
