Built in PID. Temp gauge. Adjustable pressure. Profitec Go had all of these and I love it.
I think the only reasonable upgrade is a Gaggia Classic EVO PRO or if you can find a used profitec go. Just be aware that you’ll most likely need a bunch of new accessories since these are 58mm compared to 54mm. If you’re happy with the bambino plus and had no complaints then get a new bambino plus since it’s on sale right now.
Had the gaggia and switched to Go last Christmas.. If the budget permits, go for profitec. I like the PID control for consistency
I recently upgraded from a Profitec GO to a Linea Micra, and couldn't be happier. The single boiler workflow was getting very annoying, even with the GO being quick. I got the Micra for $5600 CAD. It's expensive, but I'm sure it's going to last a very long time. They don't offer any flow control, which is not an issue for me since I was looking for an easy workflow that produces good coffee. The Micra delivers that for sure.
I wouldn’t get this machine or breville/sage machines. I had sage barista pro and it’s group head leaked water, apparently its screws lose and I opened it up put some lock tide, it worked for a while but it did it again, I sold it for a very low price just to get rid of it. It is an appliance not a machine, it will break eventually. I got a Profitec Jump amd Eureka perfetto grinder, it was sold as a pair with discount. I realized the how high quality can a machine could be. For a lower price, I would get Profited Go and a eureka grinder (or other decent grinder) usually it is sold as paired with a nice discount. You would thank me later.
Gaggimate/Gaggiuino>Profitec Go>Gaggia in objective capability. Gaggia out of the box is great for Italian style espresso, but I found it lacks the control needed to properly enjoy a larger variety of espressos (eg lighter roasts). Profitec Go seems nice, and I almost bought it myself but went with Gaggia to save space. I’m glad I did because I then did Gaggimate, and the pressure/flow profiling plus temp control, brew by weight, etc etc far outdoes the Profitec for about the same price. Basically gives you capabilities similar to a $4k Decent. The mod does require some effort, but I think anyone can do it and there’s an active Discord if you need help. Be sure not to cheap out on the grinder either - DF54/64 are a really great value, aside from a few exceptions most cheaper grinders are not good enough to make good espresso.
Profitec Go is a solid buy. You need to spend a decent amount of money on a grinder too. I've got a Baratza Sette 270wi which is great for workflow as it grinds into the portafilter and grinds to weight, but it's a bit plasticy and incredibly loud. Would probably get a Niche Zero grinder if I could turn back time.
My brother has the Profitec GO. It is a really nice machine that makes great coffee, especially for the price. In my opinion, the LM just isn’t worth the big price difference for normal home use. Plus, dual boiler machines use a lot more power. That alone would be a big factor for me. Descaling is also something to keep in mind. Dual boilers should ideally be descaled by a professional, while the Profitec can be descaled by yourself pretty easily. After owning a larger dual boiler machine (Lelit Bianca V3), I’d definitely go for a smaller, simpler machine any day
