I can say that from experience, a satisfying steam performance will start at 130°C and above for the boiler temp. Any temp below this is okay, but steam performance below 120°C with a four-hole steam tip will feel weak and mediocre. The Jump has 3 settings, and assuming yours on position II, you’ll get around 124°C steam temp at 1.5bar, which is okay and slightly better than any Breville steaming performance. Check your steam bar pressure, and perhaps the steam tip as well for any blockages. Since the Jump is an HX machine, before frothing the milk, purge the steam once, then make sure it hits 1.5 bar pressure / >120°C again before frothing the milk.
If the steam is still weak, consider changing to a 3-hole or 2 hole steam tip instead of using 4. You don’t have to upgrade for now. Also for future consideration, you can remove the Teflon tube inside the steam wand. I did remove mine and the steam power increased a lot, with the trade off on the cool-touch wand. ADDED: Stay on Position II, as Position III will definitely torch your puck regardless of how many times you flush it.
I have Jump and it is based on Pro 400. Definitely recommend it
I wouldn’t get this machine or breville/sage machines. I had sage barista pro and it’s group head leaked water, apparently its screws lose and I opened it up put some lock tide, it worked for a while but it did it again, I sold it for a very low price just to get rid of it. It is an appliance not a machine, it will break eventually. I got a Profitec Jump amd Eureka perfetto grinder, it was sold as a pair with discount. I realized the how high quality can a machine could be. For a lower price, I would get Profited Go and a eureka grinder (or other decent grinder) usually it is sold as paired with a nice discount. You would thank me later.
Jump is successor or Pro 400 which is a very good machine already. I have been using Jump almost 2 years now. Flushing before shot is not only essential for HX machines but for all E61 groups because water circulates through the group and after 30min or so it overheats, ECM Synchronica II has a fast heat element in the group which also requires flushing. I have used Barista Express before Jump and I did flush just to make sure that the temperature stabilizes. Frothing milk is way better than Barista Express on Jump, I use medium or high temperature setting on it, even if I brew espresso with medium temp, before frothing milk I switch to higher temperature setting to get stronger steam. I takes less than a minute and in the mean time I clean the portafilter and then froth the milk. Medium temp takes longer time but it still gives good mill texture. I think you should give yourself some time to get used to Jump. If you are not on budget get the higher model. Move has saturated group vs Jump has E61 which I think looks beautiful on the counter
This may be true on old HX machines, but there are a number of PID controlled modern HX machines like the Profitec Jump that maintain very consistent pressure.
I have a Jump (and a Bambino). I love it. Workflow for milk drinks is pull the shot on the lowest temp setting, switch to high, rinse the PF and begin steaming the milk. About 30 seconds for me for a single cap. Switch it back to low, flush, and move on the next drink. You could try a four hole nozzle. That will dramatically speed up the steaming.
You can watch the steam boiler pressure go up after you hit the switch, doesn’t take long. By the time I empty my porta and clean it the steam pressure is higher and ready to roll. Flipping the switch from lowest to medium after pulling the shot made a big difference for me.
Oh gotcha, that’s definitely a big difference. Maybe swapping out to the 4 would be all you need to get it where you’re used to it. The pressure is definitely there though, I have the same machine.
In the US it's nearly $2k USD which is what I was referring to, understand it might be less in Europe or elsewhere. I don't trust the Elizabeth's build quality personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable about spending that kind of money on it. Anything that comes with a cheap plastic steam knob makes me question the build quality on the entire machine, if they skimped there where else did they skimp.
I have a jump too, usually brew medium-dark to dark roast. After pulling a shot, I switch to position 3 and wait while I clean up my portafilter about 5-10s maybe? Usually it’s ready to start steaming milk. Been seeing posts about profitec move’s power button failing after awhile, maybe consider that if you are thinking to change.
Flow control is a game changer. Bought a Profitec Jump with flow control 2 months ago. Being able to keep pressure at 9 bars while pulling a shot makes for very consistant results from shot to shot.
