Get the Rocket R58 Cinquantotto. It’s a double boiler and will be a workhorse for you if you need that DB life. It’s just under 5k at Cafe Liegeois they ship within Canada and often have the best prices. I bought my current set up from them and I’m in the GTA.
My rocket58 is a really well crafted machine inside and out. The walnut details make it really gorgeous. Just got it back from its semi annual deep clean. It’s like it’s brand new. It’s kind of a buy for life quality device.
Breville Somethingorother + preground; Simonelli Oscar + Rocky; Rocket R58 + Mazzer Superjolly. No desire to upgrade again other than maybe a Mavam someday for aesthetics.
Other then brand/aesthetic. My decision tree was I drink milk drinks every time, like dual boiler and rotary pump. I’ve plumb in is really nice. I had rocket r58 then swapped to nurri lever machine. To update aesthetic and add lever function. Lots of price range choices to achieve very similar goals. I didn’t find LM look to be what I like
Don’t forget you have to budget for a grinder too. A poor grinder and great machine will always produce inferior shots to a great grinder and less expensive machine. That being said, you have a very good budget so something like a ECM synchronika II , profitec pro 600, profitec ride, lelit Bianca , ECM technika, Rocket R58 For grinders there’s the Mazzer Philos , or you could go for the Lagom p80 /01 , or one of the eureka grinders. My recommendation is the Philos …… I have the Philos and am delighted with it. There are 2 sets of burrs ; i200d for clarity and lighter roasts and then the i189d for more traditional espresso. I have the former and I can now separate flavour notes and my coffee is more lively and bright without losing much body and texture (if you want the latter get the i189d burrs or get both and you can switch it up !) IF you are interested in the philos, get it from bailies coffee roasters and subscribe to their newsletter. You’ll then get it for £963 including postage which is INCREDIBLE as it can be as much as £1400 on certain websites here. They’re back in stock so after research and if you want to go for it keep an eye out whether stock is still available. Good luck !!
Especially if you build quality and very few mechanical headaches or items to fix? I like my LMLM. It seems like 1/2 of the double portafilter LM's in so many of the cafe's and the local LM tech that fixes so many of them also recommended it. I have used a Rocket R58 and and Profitec and both had issues with the handles and valves and the flow control on the R58 was a joke. If build quality is desired then it does cost more but is also worth repairing later.
