R91 is heavy metal :-), but FW is totally neglected. SR YOU will receive its next update in a couple of weeks and I have been beta testing this for the past months. Total game changer. Full integration with Beanconqueror for bbw and visualizer, new menus, blooming as a programmable option (also in paddle mode).
Rocket Nine One - if you like Rocket already go with their top of the line, it is a great machine and looks alot better than a g3 mini or micro and is a superior machine by just about any measure warm up time should be a non issue, just leave the machine on all the time
I have had a R9One for over 2 years and it has only been off when i have been on a multiple week vacation - no issues turning them on an off (for longer periods) is more of a problem than leaving them on
Have a look at Bezzera Duo or Rocket R58 or R9 one
Have a look at Bezzera Duo or Rocket R58 or R9 oneI have the Duo. Zero issues in 8 years so far. Was looking at the R9 one recently and what shall I say… I understand your concerns.
I was in a similar position and ended up getting the Rocket R Nine-One. It has automatic volume control for morning espresso. But also flow control for playing around when I want to. Expense though. Similar to the LM.
Double boiler Not an E61. Something more advanced (like my R91 has a volumetric pump). It is a difference maker. Cup clearance Powerful steam wand Holds temp well Some kind of flow control Ability to program
My first question is what grinder do you have. I know you drink mostly darker roasts but I would make sure a good grinder is secure. If that is already squared away I would pass on the Mini. I know it is well built but it is very low on features. You are paying a lot for the name and the looks. I would get the Rocket R Nine one. Built for commercial (probably more so than the mini) with so many more features. I can program a Slayer shot and it is built better than the Slayer.
I was trying to buy a YOU a year and a half ago. I was talked out of it by multiple retailers independently of each other. They all said build quality was an issue. One recommended the R9 one. It has been amazing. A real beast. I have been doing Slayer shots that have been unreal.
Have the RNine One. It is a serious machine.
I bought a second hand R9 about 3 years ago. 3000 pulls later, I am still in love. Manual pressure profiling becomes a muscle memory in a very short time and I can’t imagine going back to fully automated shots. The machine is built using commercial machine parts and I would not worry about getting a used one if that brings the cost closer to your budget.
You will love it :) The screen fails to recognize simple touches, you will get used to it and it will not be an issue very soon. Volumetric memory recall and pressure memory recall does not work perfectly, but you will develop muscle memory for manual pressure so easily that they will not be an issue. Water and steam tanks are huge so it takes about 20 minutes to get to 1.4 bar steam pressure, but if you are in a rush, just turn off the steam tank and you will have a thermally stable saturated group head and 92 degree water tank in less than 5 minutes. It is deceptively heavy but it feels like a commercial machine, not a domestic product. You really don’t need to baby it at all. I let my teenage boys use the machine whenever they want because I know it would take their amateur abuse easily. Only problems I have are smallish water reservoir and lack of water level gauge. I just remind myself to fill it up every Sunday and Thursday. Enjoy.
Pressure profile recall is not that reliable. It may be a firmware issue and may be fixed by now. Mine can’t recall and mimic the stored pressure profile perfectly. There are some fluctuations. Yes, you can turn the steam boiler off and enjoy a perfectly brewed espresso/americano/dirty in 5 minutes and no, the grouphead is fully saturated and extremely stabilized thermally (within 0.1 degrees) so after that 5 minutes, you can pull 100 shots back to back and the machine will not even break a sweat. In the meantime you can turn the steam boiler on and let it build pressure. Once you reach steaming pressure, I don’t think you can run out of steam either. It is really built like a tank. If it is reasonably packed, it will arrive undamaged.
Brew boiler needs around 1150 watt and the steam boiler uses around 1360 watt electricity. Combined, they would need around 2.5kw of constant power and probably blow up some standard kitchen fuses. So, boilers take turns in 5 second cycles to heat up. Heating both boilers takes around 20-25 minutes. You can turn the steam boiler off (brew priority - 5 minute heat up) but you can’t turn the brew boiler off (steam priority). I don’t worry about heat up times actually. The machine has a very intuitive timer function that allows multiple turn on and off times for each day of the week. I also use a smart plug to turn the machine on/off, in case I would deviate from my regular schedule.
You’re welcome :) R9 is on a totally level compared to LMLM. I picked it over GS3 and I don’t regret it. The pump used (variable magnetic gear vs rotary) is clearly superior. Grouphead is fully saturated. There are a lot of technological goodies. If money was no object, I would happily get a LM Strada or if I could get direct plumbing, I would get a Slayer but other than these two, there is not another mainstream machine I would rather have in my kitchen. You will love yours, I am sure. If
I enjoy setting the pressure manually just too much to bother with one of the saved profiles. Manual setting also helps me save a wrongly ground or badly prepared puck. I generally have a very long preinfusion to soak the coffee gently before pushing 9 bar water through it. If the flow is too fast, I increase the pressure very gently and stop at 8 bar, if the flow is too restricted I increase the pressure more rapidly and may go past 9 bar. This way, I have drinkable coffee instead of a thin soup or thick bitter bomb. TBH, I don’t really remember the last time I had a bad coffee at home. I think espresso has just too many variables: puck prep, bean freshness, wdt, basket temperature, etc. I would not count on a preset pressure profile to get me the same coffee every time.
It wouldn’t be Reddit without these delightful sarcastic posts. Why is it always here? Anyway, best translates into what’s best for you. You don’t need a Leica camera or a Rolex watch at all, but they are desirable. So is a fine espresso machine to an extent, a person with experience and good beans can brew a mean shot on a Breville Bambino worth 300 usd while a person who doesn’t know what he is doing will fumble with a Leva X. I have a Rocket R9 One and an EG1 grinder and f it up all the time. Still want to upgrade
Hi mate I’ve been using a you for 3 weeks now absolutely love it I don’t play around with it tbh I had rocket r9 one lm mini x3 gs3 va Prima e1 decent de1xx and I’ve got synesso es1 in my office but you head and shoulders the best machine I’ve used in drinking dark and medium roast steam wands the best only 2 machines I’ve been disappointed with were va e1 and decent de1xx too temperamental if u want good honest coffee every day I’d go for mini but if u want to experiment with id go for the you i am waiting for my lagom 01 grinder im currently using a va Mythos myg85 then i will experiment
