Could have gone with the bigger brands. But went with new kid in the block. It's old tech, china made but with good parts. Espresso outlet has a good rep and CS. Good value and has the features I want. Friend has a rocket apartamento which he loves. Bought a profited pro 500 to replace it but has bad problems with it leaking.

r/espressoSometimes a better machine is the answer!

I got into espresso just a little over a year ago after taking a trip to Italy. When I got back home I did hours upon hours of research as I wanted to start making espresso at home. All the advice was always "buy the best grinder you can and a machine is less important". Anyways I ended up with the standard "espresso starter pack" of Bambino Plus and a DF54. During the past year I made espresso everyday and found the outcomes super frustrating. Sometimes my espresso would be good (not great) but a lot of the time it would come out on the sour end no matter what I tried. I started to think it had to be the beans I was using or the grinder. I mostly make milk based drinks so the slightly sour shots were not a huge deal as they were masked. I really liked the Bambino for the instant heat up and despite these issues I had no plans on replacing it. Anyways I started to do some renovations at my warehouse a few weeks ago where I keep all my equipment and thought it would be really cool to get an E61 machine as I have a very industrial vibe going on there. I settled on a Turin Gallatin dual boiler which is total overkill for my needs, but the price was right and the exact look I was going for. All I can say after pulling several shots through the machine now are WOW! It is a night and day difference in taste. I have not been playing with all the adjustable brew temperatures and flow as of yet. I have just been trying to get the hang of using it. The espresso coming out of this thing has no hint of sour (compared to what I was getting on the Bambino) even when I defiantly under extracted the first few shots. On the bambino If I pulled a similar shot for only 20 seconds or so it would be straight battery acid in taste it had to be a minimum of 30 - 35 second extraction. I am making drinkable espresso after just a few shots. Literally the worst shots I have pulled so far were as good as the best shots I was getting on the Bambino. So moral of the story is a better grinder is not always the answer! Not sure if my Bambino was defective or what, but I am so happy right now as I feel like I can now make straight espresso drinkable like I experienced in Italy!

Nothing...you can literally achieve the same results on any espresso machine that does 15 bar, which is almost all of them. You change the makeup of your shot based on grind level. Get the new Bookoo Motto80 grinder. It's as good as the current $3000 grinders but will only cost like $1000. You can't go wrong with the Motto 80. If you really care about having a shiny looking machine, there's plenty of options like the Turin Gallatin but you could have everything needed in an espresso machine with the Turin Legato v2 which gives you full control over flow, pressure and temperature. It also does pre infusion.
