Behringer - ECM8000

I think everybody needs a couple of Behringer ECM8000 "measurement" mics or the like ( say, Dayton Audio ) . Maybe the DPA mics are different, but these are a host body for a cheap Panasonic-style electret capsule that looks like a microphone instead of the inevitable spaghetti mess of homebrewing a capsule to use an XLR connector. They're a bit self-noisy and you can't really use 'em on really loud electric guitars - although I have.

Behringer ECM8000 - Stumbled upon this motherfucker in a studio 15 years ago and said "yo i've got this one at home, it's a measuring mic for referencing, why is it at your grand piano?", turns out it...sounds.... really really good. Some dude on gearslutz compared it to a bunch of other $500+ mics and it did really well. Really fun one to have! A PZM mic is cool to have, there's a subzero one people got into a few years ago, but I found "Audio-Technica ATR97 Boundary" which is very cheap and sounds very interesting. Rode M3 is probably the gold standard for what you're talking about. Cheap, not an intentional copy. Tight and present. V7 USED TO BE what you were talking about when it comes to vocal mics, but i've just started saying 58/V7 as a group now, they're both great, pick one. Sennheiser e835is the new 58 alternative that has been proving itself for a while now, it's very forward and stable in a way where it's even a legit live option to the 58 right now. Audix i5, obviously. Sounds awesome, the dynamics on loud volume do have a familiar 57 feel to them but sounds completely different in mid and top. Korg CM-400 Contact Mic is dope as hell. Buy a bunch and have fun. oh and i've been using a Crown PZM-11LL for texture, it's AKG, it's super good.

Results with phone mic were atrocious, using a measurement mic provided magnitudes better results. Even the cheap Behringer will be much better than the phone mic. The problem is not the frequency response of the phones mic per se but the comb filtering that’s happening with the intake of the mic due to the mechanical construction of the phone and its orientation. If you want to get excellent correction, consider getting an IKM Arc studio. It creates high res FIR filters instead of a few IIR and can correct much better and also for phase.

I have used cheap one and expensive ones and cheap DIY ones cloned after very expensive ones. And I think the quote there about the problem not being the microphone is spot on.
