I've got a Blue Yeti X that works really well for me. Never had issues in my 4 years of using it. Can record anything I want with it, works great.

Personally I use a Blue Yeti blackout and enjoy the upgrade from the Blue snowball. But I just wrote a comparison of similar mics here if youre interested in the read : https://thegamingglitch.wordpress.com/2025/06/05/best-budget-microphones-for-twitch-2025-edition/

I bought [Logitech YETI](https://x.com/XtraSmartDeals/status/1953435708913267010) for my son for his birthday, 6years ago. It was one of the best gifts he received because he wanted to use it to speak with friends & teachers during Zoom. The sound is slowly decreasing but what do you expect for 6years, moving around and traveling to Grandparents house! I will surprise my son with another one for his birthday this year. May he get another 6 years usage out of this microphone. Hopefully I can find this on Sale again!

i used a blue yeti microphone for 6 years, it did everything i needed it to and lasted me so long, the only reason i ditched it recently was simply for an upgrade. The blue yeti is a fantastic affordable microphone, i just recently upgraded to the Shure SM7B because I could finally afford to upgrade the quality, and i'll likely be using this mic for years and years to come

When I first started looking for a good mic, I made the mistake of getting a Blue Yeti because everyone hyped it up. But man, that thing picked up everything—keyboard clicks, my chair squeaking, even my neighbor’s dog barking two houses down. Then I tried the Snowball, hoping for something simpler, but it just sounded hollow and lifeless. That’s when I found the GTZ87, and honestly, it was a game-changer. The audio is crisp, background noise is minimal, and I don’t have to spend hours tweaking my settings just to get a clean sound. Whether I’m recording vocals, streaming, or just chatting, it delivers every time. If you’re tired of dealing with mics that overpromise and underdeliver, this one’s definitely worth checking out.

LPT: If you’re on a lot of calls (Zoom, Meet, Teams, etc.), don’t use your wireless headphones’ mic — use your laptop mic or a dedicated microphone instead. Most people don’t realize this: when you use your wireless headphones as both mic and speaker, Bluetooth splits its bandwidth between the two. That means your voice quality takes a steep dive — even if you’re wearing fancy noise cancelling headphones. Instead, do one of these: 1. Use your laptop mic for input, and headphones for output. Go into your meeting app’s settings and pick your laptop mic as input, headphones as output. The difference is night and day — clearer sound for the people on the other side and better audio in your ears. 2. Invest in a wired microphone. Something like a Blue Yeti (older but solid) or a Shure mic (newer, pricier, fantastic quality). Not cheap, but people will instantly notice how professional you sound. I’ve been teaching, giving conference talks, and doing work meetings this way since 2020. I got the microphone for another reason, but then during COVID I had to record classes and later when rewatched them, I realized just how much clarity a good mic adds. People thank you for it, and they do appreciate not having to strain to understand you. Low-quality audio adds real cognitive load and makes meetings exhausting. (Remember that colleague of yours who is always calling from their car with crappy connection and poor sound quality? How hard it is to follow the conversation?) I have used various top-of-the-line headphone sin the past few years (Bose 700, Sony WH-1000XM6, AirPods Pro (gen 1 & 2), and my wife’s Bose QC-45 and AirPods Max). Doesn’t matter which “premium” headphones you buy — this trick works across the board. Bonus point: You don’t need to stick the mic in your face like a podcaster. A properly positioned mic can be off-camera and still sound crystal clear.

I use the Logitech Blue Yeti and love it. It's not the nicest mic on the market tho (audio-quality wise) after this mic I want to upgrade to the Shure SM7B. I also use speakers because headphones start to hurt my head after a while :) Do you have noise suppression and noise gate filters turned on (if you're streaming w OBS)? That should remove a lot of your speaker noise

I haven't updated my gear in a couple years, but I replaced my Blue Yeti I started with for an Elgato Wave 3, which has served me well. It should be in the price range you are looking for as well. There are attachments for a vibration mount and pop filter as well.

I use a Blue Yeti mic with an adapter into my phone and it works very well. I use Soundcorset as the recording app. This is about ~$100 USD setup. The small Tascam recorders are smaller and more portable, but IMO have similar sound quality to the Blue Yeti + phone.

r/piano • When trying to record me playing on my upright acoustic with my phone, the phone mic seems to compress all the dynamics - so playing forte and piano sounds nearly the same. What can I do about this? ->

I guess it depends on your definition of expensive, but Blue Snowballs are pretty well known as a microphone. I personally have the Blue Yeti and think it’s great but it’s a step up (though has lasted me years throughout multiple moves with no issues).

The Yeti is a fine mic. But if your issue is background noise you should look at a dynamic mic vs condenser - SM58 is a good choice. If only speech a PG58 would work as well. Also, beyond the mic, what are the acoustics of the room? Any sound baffles to limit noise? The mic needs to match the room and the use. And as someone already said, this is a problem that can be solved for well under $1,000

I used a Blue Yeti until I reached about 4000 subs. Then I upgraded to a nice Rode NT1 5th gen. The audio quality definitely improved, but I’m not convinced the improvement was worth $200 😂

late reply but i use a yeti. dont get the yeti. its so outdated and the software is the worst piece of trash ever. watch any youtube video about the yeti in modern years and people will tell you theres hundreds of mics out there that do everything the yeti does but better, smaller, and for cheaper. like sure it still sounds good and hold up today but its really not as perfect as it used to be

I came here to agree with this. Love my Blue Yeti. Sing karaoke using it fairly regularly. You can tailor the EQ profile and other settings, or use setups created by others, too, through the Logitech Hub software.

I second this. I used it for years. With a cheap pop filter you can get remarkable results.

So it sounds like you need better audio filters! Even a cheap mic can sound decent with the right tweaking. Look up noise gates, compressors, expander, etc. If you have obs, these can be added easily. Countless videos about this on YouTube. Your biggest challenge will most likely be slowly tweaking the noise gate to not pick up your speaker volume. Once done, keep your speakers at the same volume to not mess up any settings as well. Then once you have some ok settings and still want better quality audio start thinking about upgrading! I personally use a blue yeti I've had for years. It's over priced for what it is but gets the job done well enough. I have a shure XLR mic as well I paid 100 for that is nice but I just don't like having my mic so close to me. I'm kind of just ranting at this point to give you ideas!

I use a Blue Yeti mic, and am able to place it onto my desk about a couple of feet away from me (and thus, off camera), as it's very powerful. Pretty affordable too.

Can you share some of your settings for me? I have a yeti and my friends say I give them ear rape every once in a while. Which sucks because my background noise will consist of the fan and the AC.

I use an old BlueYeti on an arm. I can keep it far enough away that it's off camera and I don't really need to worry about it.

I just use a Blue Yeti Out of the box it's terrible, but you can use the LGHUB to clean it up and download presets to make it sound great for the price

choose any USB or XLR **condenser** mic that’s in your budget. common ones are the HyperX Quadcast (S, 2, 2S, …), Elgato Wave:3, Logitech Blue Yeti, Logitech Blue Snowball, Audio Technica AT2020, … condenser mics are much more sensitive to background noise and just noise in general when compared to dynamic mics, such as the SHURE MV6. a dynamic mic is what singers use on live stage performances and what a lot of podcasts use because when you’re talking in a room with a lot of noise or across from someone else who is also speaking, you don’t want to pick up these external sounds. however the tradeoff with a dynamic mic is that the clarity can be lower compared to condenser mics, and a condenser mic that’s been adjusted for the acoustic environment can sound absolutely phenomenal. if you’re setup with multiple people on a couch, and the microphone is placed relatively centered so everyone’s voice can reach the mic, you’ll want it to be a condenser because that extra sensitivity will make all of your voices clearer even when the decibel level is low. some condenser mics like the Blue Snowball have multiple pickup patterns like *Cardioid* and *Omnidirectional*. Cardioid is the standard pickup pattern which picks up directly in front of the microphone. It sounds the best and offers the best clarity. Omnidirectional on the Blue Snowball activates multiple pickup zones around the microphone so that audio can be heard from multiple angles. This is typically used for live studio recordings or circumstances such as yours where multiple people need to be heard in a room. due to the sensitivity of condenser mics, if you don’t have an *acoustically tuned* room with proper isolation and foam padding, you may want to experiment with **noise gates, limiters, and compressors** to reduce the amount of unwanted background noise. if you use OBS, it has a built in tool for all of them.

Blue Yeti is probably the best option for exactly $100 in the U.S. especially now with the acquisition by Logitech. Blue Snowball is an older smaller unit for around $50 that still sounds quite good. If you can stretch to $150, the Elgato Wave:3 is considered one of the best USB condenser mics for streamers due to its great sound and well-made software that comes with it. Audio Technica AT2020 is an old but gold legend. still sounds great for around $100 in 2025 (21 years later), however it may not have the software support that the HyperX QuadCast, Logitech Blue mics, or Elgato do, and I believe it only has a Cardioid polar configuration. HyperX QuadCast (original model, not the 2 or S) is $80 and comes with a cool red light effect and a very intuitive tap-to-mute placement.
