Deity S Mic 2 or 3, also available in S (short shotgun) can handle humidity and different levels of temperature, keep in mind those mics require phantom power. That's a really good mic at a very low price.

So this isn’t on camera? not necessarily any reason to use concealing things in that case. a shotgun like a 416 on a pistol grip plus a recorder can go a long way. at your budget imo i would get (all on the used market to save money) \- Zoom F4 \- a nice location sound bag to wear the recorder \- Deity‘s radius shockmount that comes with a pistol grip \- a shotgun microphone like a deity s-mic2 or maybe a sennheiser MKE600 \- no idea where you’re located so frequencies can be a thing but there are great deals on sennheiser g3 wireless kits floating around, as they’re now a few models old but in the right locations they’re perfectly fine. \- Sony 7506 headphones set the Zoom F4 to record the shotgun on two channels, one gained properly and another with the gain -6 to -10 lower as a safety track.

Congrats on the new Z6III and your first short film! Since you don’t want to mic up your actors, I’d recommend using a **shotgun microphone** like the **Deity S-Mic 2** or **Rode NTG4+**, mounted on a boom pole and recorded into an external recorder (like the Zoom H5 or Tascam DR-60D). This setup lets you capture clean dialogue while staying off-camera. Avoid relying on the camera’s built-in mic — external audio will always sound much better. Good luck with your shoot!

For outdoor motorsport use where you’re not right up on the action, a shotgun mic is your best bet — something like the Sennheiser MKE 600 or Deity S-Mic 2. Both are supercardioid and do a great job rejecting off-axis noise while still picking up audio at a distance. Just make sure to use a deadcat or windscreen if you’re near the track. For indoor interviews or closer work, you’ll want a wireless lav mic system like the DJI Mic 2 or Rode Wireless GO II. Both are reliable, easy to use, and have solid audio quality for talking heads or sit-downs. If you can swing it, having both gives you maximum flexibility. Good luck with your 2026 clients! Don’t listen to any of the mean responses that you may get, I’ve noticed in this thread a lot of people comment ignorant suggestions
