r/StandupIs there an external mic that’s good for filming with an iPhone? Or what other equipment should I be looking at?

Zoom H1 is great. You may want a DJI lapel mic with the Rx receiver for best voice qulity/.

r/NewTubersAm I Shooting Myself in the Foot By Not Using My External Mics?

I saw your content on the channel! I noticed there's some room echo in the audio – a common thing with iPhone mics as they pick up everything Your external mics will focus on your voice and reject that echo. The difference is "amateur" vs. "pro." Quick test: Record 30 seconds with your iPhone, then with your DJI lav. Listen on headphones. The lack of reverb and noise will be obvious. P.S. Want to hear your lav's full potential? DM me the file. I'll clean it for free so you can hear the real difference.

Yeah, I was using my phone mic when I first started. One video you could hear the Ice Cream truck driving by with its music playing. Switched to DJI and no more background noise. It's an investment into the channel if you're more serious about making videos vs uploading them for fun to show your friends.

started with a smartphone and tripod then expanded to a lav mic which could plug into the phone. Then expanded to a Osmo Pocket 3 and DJI lav mic, using the phone as a camera monitor Then expanded to lighting. This progession was a slow and steady case of once I outgrow something and want to improve an aspect of my video thats when ill make the change.

r/videographyHas anyone ever used the PicoRecorder? I need a wireless mic solution…
about 1 month ago

Yes, I've used them for years and love them for what they are. There are some limitations though. The Pico's are amazing for interviews and things where you have full control of the set and can set the receiver close by in line-of-sight. I highly recommend if you do a lot of corporate talking-head type stuff, especially since there is no pack or wire, so you can avoid the awkwardness of running a wire down someone's shirt or trying to clip a pack onto a dress or something. However, they are not great for distance (I've had dropouts at 20 feet) and the signal is easily physically blocked (i.e. can't be around the corner). Alternatively, for other uses like events, I've been very happy with my DJI lavs. Good quality sound and the internal recording on the transmitter is a great backup option.

I use the Gen 1 DJI wireless lavs and I'm guilty of this as well, but I at least wear a collared shirt and try to hide it a bit. Slapping it on a t-shirt is just pure laziness.

I know that pedal show does a good job with shotguns. I think they use a zoom recorder. I am pretty sure they have an episode where they go over their gear but I would reach out to them about their set up. I have had good luck with Mic answering questions. Personally I would want lavs I really like the DJI wireless with a separate Lav head. They have internal recorders if the audio cuts out so you can edit it back in post if you need to.

r/videographyHow do you handle audio when shooting with your phone or camera?

There are different approaches to this since many editing apps/software now offer AI resources for tuning audio automatically, and post-processing is almost mandatory for adding subtitles, adjusting time for social media... Right now, I use wireless lavs like the Rode Wireless Go II, turn down the sensibility to -12, and clip it as close as possible to my subjects mouth. The camera audio processing it's not the best, but the lavs have internal storage, and it records in 32-bit, which is very flexible to tune in post and easy to sync. DJI has a good wireless lav too. If a lav doesn't fit your needs, a shotgun mic on top of the camera might help, but the best ones need pantom power and an XLR output to work, which ends up requiring a recorder. It's not a very practical setup, but it works wonders.

r/videographyIs DJI Mic 2 worth the price? Should I go with cheaper alternatives?

DJI mics ARE the cheap option. Honestly I would not go any cheaper than the dji/rode mics

r/VideoEditinghow does external microphones record audio to video?

Yes there are receivers that you connect to your camera and will receive the audio from the microphone, check for example the DJI mic, it has a receiver that you can connect to your camera so that the video you are recording gets the audio from the microphone and you don't have to sync anything
