DPA Microphones - 2017 Shotgun Microphone

Never looked into the DPA 2017 until now. I'm surprised by the specs. It has more dynamic range and significantly higher maximum spl than the 4017. Seems like a bargain. I have the Sanken CS-M1. Love it. But I think of it as an on-camera mic.

Depends on budgets. But the DPA 2017 super directional robust and very high grade build quality

The 50 can be used outdoors but it doesn't have the same "reach" as a longer shotgun. I use the DPA 2017, great clean and natural sound, super flat response and it can handle condensation and RF. Same price as the 416 but shorter and lighter.

DPA 2017 but it's just my personal taste. Anyway, there are several videos on YouTube comparing it to the Sanken CS-3E, which I also really like.

No question, at that price point, I would buy the DPA.

I got to test a 2017 when they first released and was really impressed. I say this as a CMIT 5U user. If I needed a cheaper mic for some reason, I'd be buying the 2017. I haven't used the 4017 but DPA mics always sound fantastic so I can only imagine it's even better than the 2017 and probably closer to the level of a CMIT.

Been loving the DPA 2017 so far. Upgraded from a NTG2 two months ago and haven’t looked back! It’s pretty small, especially compared to the NTG2 and has done well in outdoor and indoor environments. Maybe try renting one briefly to see if it’s a good fit for you?
