I use the XLR Mic from El Gato. Works very well for streams and conference calls. Works for me since I’m invested in their hardware and software already for the sound effects and the EQ settings

Jumping in on this one. I have both the Wave 3 and Wave DX from Elgato and both of them sound about the same. However, the Wave DX gives you more of that broadcast type of tone which is nice. USB Mic's are simple plug and play and if you are looking for simplicity then I would go for the Wave 3 as it is easy to learn how to use and add filters onto it.

I used an ATR2100X for ages before my community got me a Wave DX. I sound really great now, but even with that via USB I sounded excellent. It’s all about how you set the room up and how you implement various filters. Don’t overspend.

I am currently using the Wave Dx and vouch for its great quality especially for only $100.

I second the elgato wave. However, I strongly advise against anything blue branded. Cause there's just better options for about the same price

If you need a cheap mic that sounds good. The El Gato Wave series performs really well for the price, and it's USB, so you don't need to buy an XLR interface. You'll need a mic arm and a shock mount though. Do not skimp on a shock mount unless you want your viewers to hear you thumping on your keyboard constantly.

You are using the terminology correctly! There are excellent mics below that price. Check out the wiki for this subreddit. It’s got great mic recommendations. I bought both of the ones recommended (Audio Technica ATR-2100x which is about to be discontinued, and the Samson Q2U). You can get both for about $60-ish. What I would spend the rest on (if he doesn’t already have these) are a shock mount and a heavy duty mic boom arm. My husband bought me the Elgato wave and it’s the best. $100 for the arm, $10-20 for the shock mount, still leaves you $80 to choose a good USB mic. FYI, both my mics have usb and xlr capabilities. ETA: happy anniversary!

I use an elgato wave (1 or 2 idk its about 3 years old or so) and edit it in OBS sounds great imo. Will i be upgrading this year? yes, but it was a great first mic and i highly recommend them if your first starting out.
