r/NewTubersWhat gear do you use to make your YouTube videos?

I bite, who doesn't like gear? :D Main camera: FujiFilm X-H2. Lenses: Fuji 16 mm f/2.8 (small kit for vlogs). Fuji 50 mm f/2 for talking head. Fuji 16-80 mm f/4 when I need versatility. 2nd cameras: DJI Action 3, Dji Pocket 2 and Pixel 7a. Tripods: Manfrotto Befree Alu as videotripod in the field. Manfrotto X190Pro Alu for in the office. Ulanzi mini carbon fibre tripod. Ulanzi MT-44 selfie stick/tripod. 2 small generic bendy leg tripods. Sound: Zoom F2 w. standard lav. Elgato Wave:1 (w. Shock mount and pop-filter) for talking heads. Zoom H2n for ambiance sound. Røde VideoMicro as backup and on camera sound Lighting: Main: Ulanzi 40W Pro. Soft boxes: Ulanzi Fold DS60 and AS-D30. 2 generic led light panels, used before I got the ulanzi now as second light sources. 2 small pocket lights. A couple of generic light stands, that double as mic stands. Editing sodtware: DaVinci the free version. Canva for thumbnails. DxO software for image editing. I run a photography channel, I do photo vlogs and talking heads from the office. All gear is of course very essential and not at all overkill ;) Honestly the X-h2 was my biggest game changer, and the piece of kit I consider most essential for my kind of videos. It made it both easier and more fun to create my videos.

I second the elgato wave. However, I strongly advise against anything blue branded. Cause there's just better options for about the same price

r/VirtualYoutubersIs the in-built mic of a headset good enough for those just starting out? Or is a proper microphone a must-have?

If you need a cheap mic that sounds good. The El Gato Wave series performs really well for the price, and it's USB, so you don't need to buy an XLR interface. You'll need a mic arm and a shock mount though. Do not skimp on a shock mount unless you want your viewers to hear you thumping on your keyboard constantly.

You are using the terminology correctly! There are excellent mics below that price. Check out the wiki for this subreddit. It’s got great mic recommendations. I bought both of the ones recommended (Audio Technica ATR-2100x which is about to be discontinued, and the Samson Q2U). You can get both for about $60-ish. What I would spend the rest on (if he doesn’t already have these) are a shock mount and a heavy duty mic boom arm. My husband bought me the Elgato wave and it’s the best. $100 for the arm, $10-20 for the shock mount, still leaves you $80 to choose a good USB mic. FYI, both my mics have usb and xlr capabilities. ETA: happy anniversary!

I use an elgato wave (1 or 2 idk its about 3 years old or so) and edit it in OBS sounds great imo. Will i be upgrading this year? yes, but it was a great first mic and i highly recommend them if your first starting out.

my viewers told me that when I upgraded my mic I def sounded different and better more clearer. price does make a difference up to a point. I used to same mic till I switched to a 150$ elgato that has a lot better features too.
