Based on 1 year's data from Feb 25, 2026 How it works
My kids have two mics just standing there at the side of the monitor, so an arm's length away. Work fine. One is Fifine K669B. The other is better, but not sold worldwide, so no reason to recommend.
update i ended up buying fifine k669B
I just ended up buying the Fifine K669B. It will arrive tomorrow i'll see how it goes
I recently added a Rode NT1S to my gear, but before that I had a decent time with a Fifine k669b. It's a built in preamp if you don't have an interface and it can get decent sounds if you know a bit about EQing. Only 30 dollars on Amazon.
I bought that mic about 6~7 years ago for like $25 and it's pretty decent, but ended up picking up the Q2U. The Fifine 669B is a condenser mic, and I found that it picked up way too much background noise in my house. My friends could literally hear my doggo coming up the stairs or if there was other people talking in the house. Dynamic mics, like the Q2U, is much better at isolating out background noise. You have to position it closer though, about 3~6" away. For Discord, I thought it was a solid upgrade. Replaceable USB cable and XLR connection is also a nice perk if you have plans on using an interface.
If you just want something that works without spending much, a simple setup could be two decent USB mics like the Samson Q2U or Fifine K669B (both under $50 each) plugged into a laptop, recording into free software like Audacity or GarageBand. If you can’t afford two mics right away, you could start with one and sit close together, but it’s much better to have one per person for clarity. You can even find second-hand mics that still sound good. For a quieter, cleaner sound, record in a small room with soft furnishings (like a bedroom with curtains and blankets) to reduce echo. You don’t need to overthink gear right now, just get a basic setup that’s clear enough to listen to, focus on great conversations, and upgrade as you go.
This should work. I used this one and had little issue with it and it's fairly cheap [https://www.amazon.com/Microphone-Condenser-Recording-Streaming-669B/dp/B06XCKGLTP/ref=asc\_df\_B06XCKGLTP?mcid=245efe05717b3e5fb2078cd218e0b091&hvocijid=12464969054203124909-B06XCKGLTP-&hvexpln=73&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=721245378154&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12464969054203124909&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007834&hvtargid=pla-2281435179258&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Microphone-Condenser-Recording-Streaming-669B/dp/B06XCKGLTP/ref=asc_df_B06XCKGLTP?mcid=245efe05717b3e5fb2078cd218e0b091&hvocijid=12464969054203124909-B06XCKGLTP-&hvexpln=73&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=721245378154&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12464969054203124909&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007834&hvtargid=pla-2281435179258&th=1)
It's inexpensive and it works well. I've used it for multiple things over the 6 years I've had it
I've used it to record many songs, plenty of which had belting in it, and it worked. As a matter of fact, when I first got the microphone, I was working on a virtual musical and the music director sent me the link to this microphone. Plenty of the songs I was asked to record had belting in it. I didn't pick the microphone, the person asking for the songs did. They sent that same microphone to everyone else who didn't already have a microphone as well. The sound quality is not the absolute best, but it's fairly good, and OP is not looking for a top-of-the-line microphone.
I was tired so I got the wrong one. Similar price but it's a USB. I've used it before and it works well.
I had that one for a good long while and no, not really, no. Like...it's *fine* but it's not suitable for quality work.
Grab something like the Fifine K669B or Tonor TC-777 USB mic since they’re cheap, plug-and-play, and clear enough to get you started rapping without extra gear.
biggest budget tip that most people overlook - work on how you actually sound, not just your mic. i upgraded my mic twice before realizing the issue was my delivery, not my hardware. things like speaking too close to the mic, inconsistent volume, mumbling during gameplay etc. a decent usb mic like the fifine k669 for like $30 will sound great if your actual voice technique is solid. i started recording myself and listening back which helped a ton, and also tried out Creator Voice which analyzes how you sound and gives you specific things to work on. honestly the delivery side is 100% free to improve and makes more difference than any gear upgrade imo
I bought this a few years ago - https://www.amazon.com/Microphone-Condenser-Recording-Streaming-669B/dp/B06XCKGLTP Will this one be better for discord? I know nothing about microphones
