r/audioengineeringAre expensive mics a requirement for good mixing?

Not necessarily expensive, but well made, good signal to noise, good frequency response. I've got 2 different Lewitt mics, one with multi pattern, both under $399 with I bought them. Models LCT 440-Pure & LCT 441-Flex.

r/musiciansIs SM58 still wortg it for Home recording?

A SM58 was never "worth it" as a recording mic unless the alternative was a tin can and string. If this mic is solely for vocal tracking at home, why would you buy a stage mic? Well, yeah, they're cheap. (They have to be because people abuse them.) The difference between a SM58 and a SM57 is that a 58 is more rugged and sounds worse. A SM57 sounds less muffled and costs the same. Do people cut vocals with them? Yeah, if they don't have anything else or if the artist insists on it. Ninety-five percent of the time, studio vocals are cut with a large-diaphragm condenser mic. Reasonably usable ones start around $250. They start getting good around $400. Here are four that I think are noteworthy. * Austrian Audio OC16 ($400) Best-sounding 414-type mic at this price point. Open without excess sizzle. * Lewitt LCT 441 Flex ($450) A cheap 414-lineage mic with 5 patterns. Game-changer for difficult rooms. * Roswell Mini K67x ($500) So many famous lead vocals were cut on U67's. So much money for a real one. * BeesNeez B87iC ($690) A U87 clone that actually sounds like one. The classic radio sound of rock & roll.

please for the love of god, just get the lewitt. do not listen to the people saying samson shure etc. look into the lewitt mics, their $100 entry mic is miles above the price. the best studio LDC mic for that low of a cost by far

no problem. they've become a prominent brand amongst engineers for their price - quality ratio. look into produce like a pro if you want an entry into the brief history of their mics. long story short, when AKG was bought out of their company some of the employees left & started their own brands of mics. (lewitt & austrian audio) lewitt has some great people behind their products.
