Adding to this. It’s definitely the most versatile mic I’ve used. Put it up in front of any vocalist and switch between settings to find the right mic voicing instead of switching mics.

The Atlantis. My BV-1 from avantone is way cheaper and competes with mics at $3000 and up. Super sleeper mic

I compared the Lewitt 440 Pure with the Lauten Atlantis FC-387. What did I find? Honestly, both mics sound really good and totally usable. I do prefer the sound of the Atlantis—but here's what I'm wondering: couldn’t I just buy the 440 and use an EQ curve to make it sound like the Atlantis? Am I missing something here? Does the Atlantis actually capture more detail? Is it doing some kind of voodoo magic to the audio? I’m genuinely confused. Can someone with more experience explain why a mic that costs 5–6x more than the 440 Pure only sounds *slightly* better to my ears?

Lauten Atlantis. I’m not sure if some tone shaping is going on or what, but it has a distinct lush and almost liquid quality to it. Much like the M 160, it’s difficult to make it sound bad.

I haven’t used a u87 in a few years (so no direct comparison), but the Atlantis sounds more “open” and “3D” than I remember u87’s sounding. On neutral, it’s definitely less hyped. The forward circuit is maybe closer to a u87, but still a lot different if memory serves me.

Me too. Total beast of a mic. Sensitive, detailed, but not overly bright.

Lauten Atlantis has been a great investment for my studio… most singers love the way they sound through it

its unique.. very large diaphragm condenser with a “modern” sound in its forward circuit setting. neutral setting has a flatter response curve, and gentle setting has a response that compliments the harmonics of the forward setting. each of the polar patterns has its own response curve for each of these settings, but they are all very usable

The vintage ones sound a lot better to me... But yeah. They're very versatile, but you will do just as well for that mic circuit type with a Lauten Audio, a Dachman Audio... Probably also a warm Audio... For much, much, much cheaper... And that's even if you're looking for the u87 sound... You might very much prefer a different voicing... It's a very useful mic.... I like having a transformer in the circuit... But if you don't need that or care about polar patterns.... The price of admittance goes down once again. There are so many good mid tier and affordable would have been high-end microphones in modern times..... Even after these tarrifs cause not price hikes.... The years of it seemingly costing thousands for really good mics are far behind us.
