I’ve since sanity-checked this and I’ve pivoted away from stage dynamics and moving towards a small-diaphragm condenser, mounted overhead; Cardioid SDC, like sE Electronics sE8, or the Rode NT5 At that distance it gives me a natural tone without cranking gain, and I can exploit the rear null by aiming it into the corner/window area.
Icchan_ 1.0That's basically foley. Are you SERIOUS about this recording or is it just for one off happenstance for fun? If serious, you need a high end preamp and a microphone made for foley. Foley mics have very VERY low self noise and require little amplification. Examples of decent priced foley compatible mics: SE Electronics SE8 Audio-Technica AT 4022 etc... Very low noise mic preamps can be another matter though, they're VERY expensive. BUT many have gotten away with RME mic pres, MOTU mic pres and even Scarlett mic pres (with caveats), but start from the mic first, then choose the pre if you still need better performance.
