r/audioengineeringIs the Warm Audio Tube47 an outlier? Why does it sound so good?

I have a pair of WA-19s and they're definitely cool for a certain vibe - especially for music where you want that vintage, punchy round snare sound. A different story I know but I used to work in a studio with a WA-MPX and it always added some nice colour - again for very specific old school styles.

The simplier designs seem to work well. The ribbon microphones sound great. The LA-2A clones are ok, the pultecs are ok, not magical, but usable. The WA-19 is fantastic and shockling the Wa-84 is great. The tube mics I tried - the 251 and the wa-800 don't sound right.

SM57, Sennheiser e906, Audix i5 are my go to’s. I’ve also had great results with the Warm Audio WA19.

WA-19, I've been using it for as a Mono Overhead on drums, and its really nice. Very punchy, and it pairs well with stereo overheads
