Look up Rode Video mic and read about it. It has a 3.5mm output and its own battery.

Rode video mic. But it’s consumer grade. A big step up from phone mic for close (2-4ft). Not “top quality” because that implies you’re using a proper preamp

The rode videomic is all right for getting the ambient sound. Mine can also plug into one of the two dji mic remote wireless microphones so I can place them independently of the camera. The internal sound recording is good enough for matching the audio if you forget to clap.

Depends on their setup. The most-recognizable mic is the Shure SM7B. Well-known for providing a great sound (with the right support hardware chain) with notable warmth and proximity effect for those looking to get that 'radio voice' going on. $400 for the mic, then another hundred for something like a Cloudlifter CL-1 to drive it properly, and $100-200 for an XLR interface Shotgun mics, the MKH-418 is one of the go-to lower end units (as in, costs under $2K), but I like some of the Rode stuff; the videomic is well-known, and I use an NTG3 myself as it pairs with a deeper voice very well. If you mean starter streamer gear, the AT2020 is a solid pick, as is a Shure SM58 or 57 with a Behringer U-Phoria XLR interface. Fifine have seen a good bit of uptake lately, but it's... very cost-effective for the qality (no typo), to put it nicely.

Yep, you can totally record decent audio without a PC. your phone + a good mic is enough. I’ve been using the [Vomo app](https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6449889336?pt=126411129&ct=redditbilly&mt=8) on my iPhone to record directly (no time limits). As for mics, look into something like the Shure MV88 or Rode VideoMic Me. solid sound, and they plug right into your phone.

Which Rode mic? There are two cables, trs and trrs. One is for phones (trrs?)

5.5 jack but there are 3 and 4 pin cables to plug into the camera. I'm guessing the camera has a 3 pin jack and takes a three ring plug.the cable for the micro may be a 4 pin/ring 3.5 plug. I don't have a snap-8, but research here says the sound is not great. I have a dslr and a rode video mic. There's a second question about powered mics vs non powered and whether the jack supports uncovered mics. Campsnap would know about that, especially if they are going to market their own mics
