Indeed, that’s where the 32 Bit float on board comes in. The signal you get to your camera is a backup and the files saved locally on the device are what you work with. It’s been weird to find ourselves putting down the Sennheiser EW-DP ME2s which are like £1200 for 2 vs the DJI’s which are £300 ish for 2 before you add the sankens
Made the sennheiser me2 lav to this
Some points to remember. You are a KJ, charging for your services. Considered by most customers as “the pro”. If you buy wireless that constantly dropout, pick up static, or cause feedback, you’ll run yourself out of business. Analog wireless have circuits called compressors and expanders. Compressors squash the dynamic range in the transmitter, and the expander reverses this in the receiver. That way, they can mask the noise inherent in radio frequency transmission. A cheap wireless may not even use compander circuits, like those that sell 4 channels for $200. A system that uses the next cheapest solution will leave audible effects, like a kind of pumping sound. There are all kinds of tech by different manufactures to create the most quality sound, with nearly undetectable companding. Enter fully digital wireless. The analog signal of the voice is turned to digital audio in the transmitter, and converted back to analog at the receiver. No compander circuit required. Their quality of sound is incredible. Sennheiser EW-D series have become my new favorite, on the lower price range. You can go for the e835 handheld, and they really sound good. Easily as good as a wired SM58. Look for open box deals. Some stores will loan a mic to some charity event, repackage, and sell it open box, at a discount. The handheld transmitters are all metal construction so “mic drop” artists who haven’t already been banned from the venue won’t be doing much damage. Just buy the mics one at a time, as your budget allows. I’ve known guys that buy one for their personal use as the announcer, and once they get the second one, they switch to a wired for the KJ, and have a pair for singers.
Rode Wireless go with Sennheiser ME2
I'd keep them! Do you ever plan to use a lav? If so locking connector is a big asset. (I went with the Sennheiser's partially for this...) But I also have the earlier Wireless Go II's and think rode makes a solid kit.
I've had the wireless Gos for a couple years now and I hate them. Switching the sennheiser lavs asap.
Tentacle Sync Track-E if I'm in a hurry. Records 32 bit float straight to the pack so you don't even really have to worry about levels, just put the lav on and hit record. Can monitor via the phone app, though it has latency so I usually just do this at the start to check there's no rustling etc. Only issue is the included mic is quite dull sounding so I use a Sennheiser lav with mine. Otherwise for shoots where I have more time to set up I run a wired lav and boom mic into my C70. It only records 16 bit but if you set levels properly and use the limiters to avoid clipping it's fine. I always do some noise reduction in post anyway so any preamp noise is gone by then, not that I notice it anyway.
