Why not a Beta 57a? About the same midrange but also captures more of the high and low end.

SM57, SM58 or Beta SM57 Beta SM58. I prefer the betas mostly for the off axis response and slightly wider frequencies. These are the industry standard for durable quality mics

r/recordingmusicIs this a good setup for a male recording just vocals and using a DAW (FL Studio)?

Get a beta 57 - great for vocals - you don’t need a pop filter or a stand….or to quote the late great MCA “simply hand held is the style that goes, never rock the mic with a panty hose”

My vote is a Shure beta 57. There's nothing it doesn't sound at least very very good on.

I’ve found the Beta 57 sounds better on cabs to my ears. A little smoother and better rejection.

My favorite is Shure Beta 57A. Others I recommend are Sennheiser e945 and e935.

And not ones I normally recommend. 57 for cab micing, of course. Now the beta 57 was more my taste for vocals, but I also used it on snares. The 58 seemed to struggle with reproduction of my voice, but seemed to do ok with softer singers or female vox at times. Yes you can hammer nails with the 58, but my first om5 is 25+ years old, missing all the body paint, has been in front of ten people and ten thousand. Still works just fine

I use it as my live vocal mic, the polar pattern and response really works for me and my voice. We use IEMs and got very used to the sound of it on my voice, to the point where when I forgot it one day and used a 58 the drummer was like what's going on with your mic, vocal sounds weird/bad
