The sm57 or sm58 are great of course. I'd personally take a Beta 57a though if I only had one mic. It is 60 more bucks, but I find it's a lot more pleasing on acoustic instruments and is a touch more controlled on vocals Like any XLR mic though, don't forget you need an interface
Why not a Beta 57a? About the same midrange but also captures more of the high and low end.
I've used a zoom h4n with beta 57 with success
Get a beta 57 - great for vocals - you don’t need a pop filter or a stand….or to quote the late great MCA “simply hand held is the style that goes, never rock the mic with a panty hose”
My vote is a Shure beta 57. There's nothing it doesn't sound at least very very good on.
I’ve found the Beta 57 sounds better on cabs to my ears. A little smoother and better rejection.
