Shure Beta 98AD/C. They sound awesome on toms and percussion, and are super tiny so they can get into tight spots. I also tried them and loved them as room microphones, so I got the clip version (Beta 98H/C) for that and because you can clip them onto bongos and stuff. Not a lot of talk about them online and not a lot of videos on youtube about them, but I am glad I gave them a chance. I second the Beyer Dynamic TG D71, which is phenomenal as a kick mic. I'm sure it would be great for other purposes too. Also just gotta give some love to my TLM102, which sounds good on everything except my raspy voice sometimes. It holds it's own even directly compared to my U87 Ai.
EV RE-20 or revamped equivalent seems to work best for me. I have a Shure 57, 58 and a Shure Beta clip on horn mic, but the double edge sword of a clip on is that you can’t change the proximity or figure something out on the fly off mic. With a wireless you can mute the channel intermittently but the whole wireless thing / forgetting to unmute can be a trap.
Shure Beta 98h/c is what all the brass use in the band I’m in. There’s a version of the mic that connects to a body pack, and another that has an XLR out. All of us are using the XLR out since we’re not running around on and off stage, but the biggest advantage over say an SM57 on a stand is that we don’t have to worry about making sure we’re playing into the mic since they’re clipped to the bell.
Yes. Get the Shure Beta 98. Great design with the gooseneck and very reliable.
I prefer the Shure beta 98 over the pga98. In my experience the beta 98 is brighter and cleaner. The pga98 is a budget friendly mic (so I beta 98 imo) but I’m unimpressed with the lack clarity
Shure SM57 if no horn dancing Shure Beta 98H/C clip on if horn dancing
If one’s provided I’ll use it (like SM57 or whatever). If I have to bring my own I use a Shure Beta 98a, going into Xvive U3C wireless transmitter/receiver. I either strap the transmitter to the horn or put it in my blazer pocket (if I’m wearing one). If I need in-ears I run an Xvive U4 wireless transmitter/receiver, with Tennmack in-ears (Shure 215 copies). Works well!
I play in 2 bands where the entire horn section uses the NU-X B6 pro (the pro has better battery life and a mute button, which is totally worth the extra money). Both sections are sax, trumpet, and trombone. The nu-x sounds good for both of them. The pro-version also has trumpet specific eq settings. I'm hoping they add trombone settings in a future firmware update. The 57 on a stand is great if you've got room, but if you're in a 10-piece band playing on a tiny stage, the wireless gives you some better options for where to fit the horn section. The Shure 98hc is still probably the standard wireless, but you have to deal with the receiver pack so it's not quite as convenient.
Hello. 20 year regional mexican accordion player here. I have been using 2 - shure 98h/c clip on condenser microphones. They sell both TA4F connector for wireless body packs and XLR version as well. You can also try out some Harmonik internal microphones as well.
You’ll want to get an external microphone that connects via USB or use an audio interface with an XLR mic—something like the Focusrite Scarlett Solo. A USB mic will be the easiest and most affordable option. I personally use a Shure mic with XLR and audio interface but if you want USB only for simplicity. This one is highly rated and works great with Zoom: https://a.co/d/0kW94MC There’s also a higher-end version here: https://a.co/d/3dMutRA I’ve also heard great things about these mics: https://a.co/d/98s1aEP At the end of the day, any USB mic will work—it just depends on how high you want the audio quality to be and how much you’re willing to spend.
