Based on 1 year's data from Feb 15, 2026 How it works
I have had an Amazfit Active Edge for the past 9 months, and it works fine for running. The GPS and heart rate tracker seem to be accurate. The uploading to Strava also happens in the background. If you also swim, then the watch is not the greatest. It does not track laps very well at all, and the heart rate monitor is also suspect. But for 8K (when I bought it, now it sells for 5-6K), it is pretty good.
I have had the Amazfit Active Edge for a year, and it works for me. GPS is fine, but the HR can be a bit iffy at times.
I use an Amazfit Active Edge bought for Rs. 8000/- on Amazon in December 2024. So far, it has worked perfectly fine for my needs. The GPS is accurate, and it tracks speed, cadence, etc. quite fine. It is possible the Heart Rate monitor is inaccurate when my HR goes about 140bpm. I am not sure as I have not compared it to others (this is my first device). I can certainly recommend this device. It is value for money. One problem: If you swim, it does not track very well. Often, the distance it shows and the distance I count are different by about 20%, which is a lot.
Look into Amazfit watch. I have the Active Edge at the moment & I’m looking into upgrading to the T-Rex 3 or Active 2 (square)
I bought an original Amazfit bip 4-5 years ago and still use it for the gym to track time between sets. That's about all it's good for. A few months ago I went deep down the rabbit hole of affordable smart watches and weighed cost, features, battery life, ecosystem, HR monitoring accuracy, developer support, etc. and I think the winner at the time was the Amazfit Active/Edge (now supersedes by the Active 2 for $100). For less than $40 new you're not getting anything that's much worth using. Slow, laggy screens, HR monitoring will be way off, likely to have QC issues, GPS will lose tracking and be inaccurate, no chance of standalone music or Bluetooth connection to other devices, battery may degrade quickly, and they'll probably have proprietary OS with poor app options and support. I'm a big Amazfit fan, so I'd say maybe the Bip 5 on sale right now for $50 is worth it. Has Zepp 3.5 which has some nice features. I'd say you're either seeing bot reviews or people with very low expectations. If all you want is to read notifications, see the weather on your wrist, skip music tracks, and read the time then sure, but beyond that you can't expect much.
I have a few devices that I like! Amazfit Active Watch and Helio Ring - theyre good all around fitness and sleep trackers. I use them mostly for sleep, steps and light heart rate tracking during the day. My downside to these is, like a lot of lower price smart devices, my watch only checks heart rate once a minute (unless it's set to an exercise mode), and the ring only every 5 minutes. Then (again, unless it's tracking a workout), it'll aggregate the heart rate data over 5 minute intervals for me to look at. It's all very accurate and gives a good quick picture of my day, but I wanted something with a bit more granularity to check our when I don't feel well. Sometimes I also find myself distracted during the day wearing the watch since it'll also send me notifications for texts and such. Visible 2.0 Armband - this is a new addition for me. I've had it a week now. This device only checks heart rate and HRV, but it is constantly monitoring the heart rate and gives you your HRV in the mornings (or during breathing exercise through the app). The data is presented minute-by-minute, it's incredibly accurate and gives a lot of helpful insights into when I'm pushing myself a little too hard. Downside here, it's subscription based. While my Amazfit watch was a one time like $90 payment, this band is an initial cost of $79 with a $20 a month subscription fee. With a referral code (which I used), it basically made it $59 for the band and the $20 initial first month payment. Slightly better but again, it is financially restrictive for some people. If youre interested though, I'd be happy to provide a referral because I do think it's a useful tool at least to gather information.
I have an Amazfit Active that I use both in the pool and on a lake. It seems to do good with both. Its distance reports a little further than my sister’s Apple Watch, but it was comparatively cheap.
