I use an AmazFit Bip at times. Slow to acquire satellites, not nearly as nice as the T-Rex, but quite inexpensive. Basically just records the GPS route and keeps track of time; no mapping.

True. My Bip has taken some beatings, but not nearly as robust as the T Rex.

>a lot of smartwatches had to be recharged every few hours, not just every day My Amazfit Bip had about 3 weeks of battery life, Amazfit GTS3 had 2 weeks, and the current Amazfit Bip 5 have 7 to 10 days.

Amazfit BIP was very nice. Still miss that MIP screen. Had BIP U Pro, T-rex Pro, T-rex 2 and their screen wasn't nice as BIP's MIP. And yes, Garmin is years ahead of Amazfit in terms of software..

I bought an original Amazfit bip 4-5 years ago and still use it for the gym to track time between sets. That's about all it's good for.  A few months ago I went deep down the rabbit hole of affordable smart watches and weighed cost, features, battery life, ecosystem, HR monitoring accuracy,  developer support, etc. and I think the winner at the time was the Amazfit Active/Edge (now supersedes by the Active 2 for $100).  For less than $40 new you're not getting anything that's much worth using. Slow, laggy screens, HR monitoring will be way off, likely to have QC issues, GPS will lose tracking and be inaccurate, no chance of standalone music or Bluetooth connection to other devices, battery may degrade quickly, and they'll probably have proprietary OS with poor app options and support. I'm a big Amazfit fan, so I'd say maybe the Bip 5 on sale right now for $50 is worth it. Has Zepp 3.5 which has some nice features.  I'd say you're either seeing bot reviews or people with very low expectations. If all you want is to read notifications, see the weather on your wrist, skip music tracks, and read the time then sure, but beyond that you can't expect much.

u/expensive_dev73 Usually the screen, and especially the always-on screen, is the main battery drainer. But how is it possible that, for example, the 8 year old Amazfit Bip with screen has a battery that lasts 45 days, and now a brand-new planned product, with an external shape that is probably the same size or even larger and does not have a screen, only lasts 7 days? Even the battery of some smart rings lasts a longer time. Logically, the battery of this new product should last not 7 but 70 days.

> I have a discontinued xiaomi smartwatch from like 7 years ago and the battery lasts 30 days, and the display is always on. Mi Band or Amazfit Bip? I loved the Bip, as basic as it was, and it usually gave me three months of battery life easily.

I use Amazfit Bip S. It has everything I need: - Has always-on screen, I don't have to press the button or raise my arm to see the time - It gives me the time - It vibrates on calls and certain notifications (configurable) - It has battery for 1 month - It's very cheap compared to high-end watches (about 50€ or so) It also measures your heart rate and has sports tracking with gps but I never use those things since they're quite useless anyway. Perfect watch for me. I've bought it 3 times already (not because it stops working but rather because I'm a clumsy idiot that can't stop scratching the screen with random stuff)

I'm only commenting because I also have had Amazfit watches the last 6 years. OG Bip and the Bip S. I loved the always on screen and the battery life. I haven't read through responses yet, but the question is are you willing to pay for it if there is a watch that fits your needs? Amazfit watches are actually quite good for their price, but they are also cheap on the scale of what smartwatches cost. Are you willing to spend $1,000 on a smartwatch that lasts you 5-10 times what an Amazfit would? I've been doing a LOT of research and am in the process of determining which Garmin watch is right for me and if I'll cheap out and spend $200 or go all out now and spend $1,000 on my next watch from them based on my wants and needs (marathon training and solar charging/sapphire lens) and waiting out Black Friday sales. $60 for both my Bip and Bip S are absolute deals compared to what I'm looking at now. If you get less than $100/year use out of your watch and are happy with its' features, that's a win. The Amazfit watches I've had have exceeded my expectations and needs, but as I approach a goal in my running career that can't really be addressed by their watches with a couple of exceptions that at this point I'm still considering, Garmin is the clear leading option for me. Coros is also in the equation, but for what I want and the reviews I've read, Garmin still leads the pack in terms of both data quality/accuracy, and product support longevity. Do your own research, but Garmin is definitely my next smartwatch, and Amazfit has lost their edge in my eyes, they can't even come close to matching battery life with the Bip S now. They lack a lot of the training features also, which I guess doesn't matter if you're following your own training schedule. Your needs will drive your options.

Kinda regretting getting the round early. I'm used to the square Bip and this feels sexy.

As someone who has used a good amount of the alternatives, I fall under the case of nothing really beats a Pebble. Wear OS is still an unstable mess imo and feels too much like just a phone on my wrist. The Pebble actually feels like an extension of my phones abilities but not overwhelmingly so. Plus, you can make your own apps for it if you are into it. The BangleJS2 and Bip are some alternatives but I didn't enjoy them anywhere near as much. A readable screen, you are looking at e-ink or the e paper we get on the Pebble, Bangle, Bip, JS, Fossil HR (I believe that is what they called their hybrid) and I believe some Garmin watches, though they fall into the category of I haven't used them. The battery life is the killer feature on the Pebble to me. Though the Bangle and Bip have great battery, the pebble just did more with it to me. The ability to reply is nice but a touch screen only was a deal-breaker for most watches nowadays. The buttons are really nice when I need them like when wearing gloves for work. I'm excited for my Time 2, and have my Time Steel on while I wait. I took off my Ticwatch Pro 3 and it has sat with getting put on the charger once a month to keep the battery from just stopping from working. If you have concern, grab a used time for cheap if you can and use it for a bit. Don't like it? Cancel your preorder and you can find something you do.

Amazfit. I think the worst you'll get is 5-7 days with everything enabled, most will do 10+, and some 20+ days with a mix of features enabled. They all have really good screens, the newer ones have better features like enhanced notifications with images, ability to reply to messages with voice or typing, built in AI assistant The Active 2 is often on sale, there's also the Active 2 Premium which adds sapphire glass screen and NFC for contactless payments, then there's the Balance and Balance 2 for basically every feature with a bigger screen and battery, they do the Active 2 square if you prefer that, they also do the Bip range for cheaper square ones. It does depend on what features you want, they aren't WearOS so you can't get the same range of 3rd party apps and watch faces, but there's still quite a few out there. Personally I prefer them as they run smoothly, have good battery, and are generally smaller than WearOS Watches.
